Joe Biden's transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg, can't let it go.
Two weeks after drawing public criticism from the likes of Fox News's Tucker Carlson and others for taking family leave at a time of multiple transportation crises, including a big supply chain breakdown at West Coast ports, he's decided to campaign for ... family leave. Never mind the ports.
According to The Hill:
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is aiming to use the fierce criticism he faced from conservatives over taking paternity leave as a way to have a conversation about the issue, amid efforts from the White House to get paid family leave into a social spending bill pending in Congress.
“The negativity was unfortunate but, in a way, maybe some good comes out of it too because it’s helped us have a conversation about parental leave,” Buttigieg said this week.
That's what he was talking about on the Sunday talks. That's his priority. It would be like Gen. Mark Milley discussing the importance of weight loss while Afghanistan was collapsing, which even Milley didn't do.
The brouhaha began about two weeks ago when the ports went into crisis, more than a hundred cargo ships found themselves stranded off the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, while independent truckers, forced to buy new trucks and banned as independent contractors in the state of California, suddenly became scarce.
As an unprecedented supply chain crisis rippled through the American economy, unbeknownst to the American public, Buttigieg was on family leave. He said nothing. He attended a single zoom meeting. Joe Biden had to appoint someone else to try to sort through the port crisis since Pete wasn't up to the job.

Of course you have to understand that his "job" isn't what you might think. His assignment is apparently to so screw up the supply chain that we slide back into the worst days of the initial scamdemic lock-downs. They are looking for empty shelves, lines, delays. You know, the kinds of things we used to see in Eastern Europe, Venezuela, and the like.
The intent is obviously to distract. People who are struggling to find things and provide for the basic needs of their families won't have too much free time or energy to worry about how their freedoms continue to erode or how those in power promising "solutions" are in fact making things worse.

Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg just added two new additions to their family.
After revealing their joyous fatherhood news last month, the U.S. secretary of transportation, 39, posted the first black-and-white family photo of himself and Chasten, 32, each holding one of their swaddled newborn twins. The couple welcomed a boy and a girl, revealing their names in the post.
“Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we’re becoming parents,” they wrote in a joint statement. “We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family.”
The growing family was immediately showered with congratulatory comments. “Congrats you two!! Beautiful!” wrote Sophia Bush. “Congrats you two!!!!!” Jesse Tyler Ferguson commented. “Congrats!!!!” added Charlie Carver and Bobby Berk. Emmy Rossum commented with a series of prayer hands and heart eye emojis.

Pete previously announced that he and Chasten were parents on Twitter last month. “For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family. We’re overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents!” he wrote.
“The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us,” Pete added. “We can’t wait to share more soon.”
The former presidential candidate married Chasten, a middle school teacher, in June 2018, after they met on Hinge and began dating in 2015. They’ve since been open about their desire to start a family, telling PEOPLE they’re “excited” about becoming parents. “We’re just navigating those conversations,” Chasten said in September 2020.

Or maybe just suspend the rules for interstate trucking because of national security. We now have a perfect storm of left wing politics that has crashed our supply chain. What started it was California’s truck rule mandating only Tier 4 final trucks allowed and their gig worker rule. Not enough trucks led to the ports getting stuffed with containers waiting to go out.
That led to too many empty containers with no place to go, the ports won’t take them because they have no space. The truckers don’t have any empty backbone trailers to pick up cargo because there’s no where to put the empties or get them off the trailers. It’s a total cluster.
This is one time the Fed government could help be doing some very simple things, but they won’t. The “Biden” administration is too busy destroying the country to do the right thing.
A few easy steps to begin to unwind the situation:
#1 Emergency authorization shelving California’s Tier 4 final rule. (any truck authorized and legal to be on a federal highway is exempt for interstate commerce_
#2 Set up depots at California military bases to accept and offload empty Con Ex boxed and have the Army COE rig out the empties.
#3 Provide backbone trailers to the trucking industry (free, lease, whatever) we have thousands.
#4 Adjust allowable work hours for drivers to allow for increased wheel time.
#5 Get it done NOW!

“Individuals in the executive branch who are appointed by the President to positions in the Executive Schedule are not covered by the leave system,” a spokesperson for the Office of Personnel Management said.
“They do not earn leave and serve at the pleasure of the President. The President can choose to allow him to take time off.”

He also had time to film some comments for an otherwise nice series on the History Channel. The episode he was on was about building the Statue of Liberty. Others interviewed were all engineers or people who have spent substantial times researching and writing about this great achievement. What did this guy have to add? Nothing. Yet he got the final clip as they ran the credits.
I can’t wait to watch the next episode which I think is about building the highway system across the country. Here’s a topic on which he is expert! I wonder how many clips they’ll have of him on this one.
