“The second Monday in October has been recognized as a federal holiday since 1968. In 1990, South Dakota was the first state to do things a little differently than the rest of the nation,” Noem said. “In South Dakota, we recognize Monday, October 11th, as Native Americans’ Day. We recognize that the Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota people and their culture is part of who we are collectively as South Dakotans. We recognize them traditionally as the O’ceti Sakowin meaning the Seven Council Fires — more commonly known throughout the world as the Great Sioux Nation.”
The statement continued, “In 1990, Governor George S. Mickelson lead the ‘Year of Reconciliation.’ It’s been my goal in public office to continue that mission of recognizing and respecting the nine tribal nations that share our geography. It is my goal to come to the table with tribal leaders to support tribal communities, businesses, and families.”
“This holiday weekend, I encourage every South Dakotan to reach into their own community to support Native-owned businesses, learn more about the local Native American culture, and recognize the shared values we have as South Dakotans,” Noem concluded. “Don’t wait until Monday to celebrate Native American heritage.”
Noem’s tweet about the statement struggled to find support from either side of the aisle.

Every week Noem delivers a new embarrassment. People who promoted her last year should feel deep shame https://t.co/VxevID7Fkg

Thanks Governor for making time to celebrate Native American heritage in the midst of Corey Lewandowski affair and daughter's real estate license/nepotism scandals

This, from the governor who wants to delete Native History from the curriculum.

She’s reminding me of another RINO who’s going nowhere, Nikki Haley.
Noem shoots herself in her other foot!
Another failed pop culture idol building project.
Henry Hudson with an honorable mention to Giovanni da Verrazano deserve to be celebrated as the first explorers of the United States.
Here is one American with Italian ethnicity in South Dakota.
Seriously pick your battles!
Our country is led by commie-nazis and millions of American workers are being forced into a toxic shot or lose their jobs.
Nothing wrong with giving attention to the native Americans.
It’s not like any conservative is EVER going to win a Presidential election again. Elections need to be overhauled or we will have Rats in charge forever.
a Nikki Haley clone it seems ...
So Noem wants everyone to mass murder, capture slaves, and cannibalize enemies?

Not specifically Noem related, the natives are rising up and with eight or nine parts of the “great Sioux nation” residing in South Dakota, it is a growing problem she will have to deal with. https://ndncollective.org/ with Hq. in Rapid City is already well funded and busily engaging with law enforcement. Early October “Day of Rage” is not the celebration of the Discovery of America, or the goodness of America.
It is a movement promoting unfortunate history of indigenous people. As unfortunate as that history might be, it is not leading those people in the right direction. Though a sovereign nation, the Sioux are some of the most patriotic of American’s with probably a greater support and participation in the US Military per capita than the rest of the United States. Or it could be their warrior mentality.
I consider it unfortunate that the majority of their leadership seems to come from the radical and warrior side of the tribes apparently intent on milking everything they can from the pockets of the American people that had little to do with their unfortunate history.
She’s a phony. Pretty face, brain dead.
It’s great that they’re celebrating native American culture and heritage. I’m a native American—I was born here in America!
There was a debate about her on The Donald (which is a much younger crowd than FR) during another of her suicide attempts and one person there put it very succinctly in telling off one of her shills:
“She’s not going to f*^k you.”
Pretty much tells the whole story.
Noem is South Dakota’s version of Nikki Haley.
Hey! You forgot Columbia, Maryland!
I knew it the minute she caved on the 4th of July celebrations and, even earlier, on the vax stuff.
Pandering:
When Democrats do it, it is evil.
When Republicans do it, it is stupid.
This is an unusual 'extra' to the digest list, along with the GGG list, and Usual Suspects list.
(not to mention the so-called indigenous PreColumbian peoples who spent at least 10,000 years annihilating, colonizing, and oppressing one another)
Kristi Noem has gone from normal to Full Clown as quickly as anyone I can remember.
It’s Columbus Day, not indigenous peoples day.
And Nikki seems to have big plans for her political future - like Pence. And Christie. And probably Kasich. These people are clueless.

Ah yes, the Great Sioux Nation. The group of aborigines who were notorious for inefficiency in feeding their own people. Life as hunter/gatherers is tough in good years, terrible in bad years. A lot of land and game is required to sustain a large population of hunter/gatherers.
Unfortunately for the GSN the white eyes from the east were terribly efficient in feeding their own. On a fraction of the land needed by one tribe of the GSN the white eyes could support thousands and defend themselves.
The most efficient society always wins.
Unless they ship their jobs and technology overseas.
