Let's say you run a large, successful company with a lot of smart people working for you.

You anticipate in the short and medium term to experience rising costs, rising prices, shortages of items, and increasing demand.

So, what to do? You throw the mother of all sales with deep discounts. Why?

Or they think there is going to be big time deflation in the next few months. Or a serious deflationary de-leveraging.

Could it possibly have to do with the speed, specifically the lack thereof, of shipping? Pushing people to order now to avoid the disappointment of not getting their stuff in time for Christmas? That issue, right or wrong, will be blamed on the retailer.

My guess is they’re expecting even bigger supply chain issues as the holidays get closer. A few local businesses have told me that their suppliers are seriously worried. One guy told me, I’m ordering now for Christmas or I won’t have anything to sell.

My guess it’s because of the supply chain breakdown that is supposedly looming. So they are going to ensure it happens even sooner. Just my guess.

Amazon will not have stock to cover the “Black Friday” events subsequent to Thanksgiving this year. All the merchandise is piled up in ports or on ship cargo bays because it is so badly jammed up at the distribution facilities, with no dock workers and no distance trucking available.

It will be markdowns on off-brand stuff that they recently jacked up prices on so they could make the "sale" seem legit. Business as usual.

This is preventative marketing so they can have fewer markdowns when Black Friday rolls around (and so they can get people to biuy now rather than waiting.)

One of my best friends is an import and export broker. A lot of this has to do with the Chinese screwing with shipping protocols to give them an advantage and the Biden administration doing nothing to correct the situation. This is one more problem caused by sleepy Joe and his cabal of people who seem to have no clue what they are doing. It looks like the influence that the Chinese bought and paid for is doing what it was meant to do.

Supply chain issues. Harris let the cat out of the bag over a month ago when she was encouraging buying Christmas presents. Buy now, or perhaps enjoy a simpler, more family/religious based Christmas.

Why?

“Amazon has begun rolling out “Black Friday-worthy deals” to jumpstart the holiday shopping season that’s expected to be chaotic because of shipping and supply chain issues.”

To increase Christmas sales, they must start early due to the shipping companies not able to handle the demand surge.

The demand: more people are buying Christmas online instead going to the Malls and Shopping centers.

They want to spread the trucking problems over a longer time period?

Perhaps they are anxious to sell and deliver products before all of the trucks break down and are sitting in repair yards waiting for repair parts that may never come.

Amazon is always looking for excuses for sales. It’s how you clear stuff out. Also it gets people visiting the website when they otherwise might not. Just like any other retailer. White sales. Presidents Day Sales. Whatever else they can gin up Sales. The news has been saying there will be shipping problems so get your shopping done early. No reason for Amazon not to turn some cash on that.

Why?

Sales gimmick.

Some onliners start ‘black Friday’ sales even earlier.

I recall in the 50s and 60s some department stores running ‘Christmas in July’ sales. One store even started putting out their Christmas decorations in August.
