I have a few minor skills:

I tend to see the big picture fairly clearly. I can never predict individual events, but I spot trends very early, and I can articulate those observations with brevity. I, for example, predicted the severity of the Covid crisis well before they even gave it a name... and several Freepers who listened to me got a few month head-start in getting ready for the problems in the supply-chain that it caused.

I'm also finding that I have certain leadership characteristics. If we individually survive this, I want to help rebuild the country in the way that the forefathers -- men of great wisdom who suffered many tribulations we shall soon face -- have designed.

We have never faced a crises of really bare shelves throughout the grocery store. In the past, if the Hostess Twinkies were gone then then there were still Little Debbies. If every can of beans, every bag of rice, every tin of sardines, and every calorie disappears from the stores then how will our spoiled population behave? They do not have experience at foraging for dandelion roots, cattails, and poke sallet. If we get to the point of truly bare shelves then the violence will be incessant.

One small but significant thing the fall of Afghanistan brought about, was a unified sense of sorrow, anger, disgust, and deja vu amongst those of us who still love America and all the goodness for which she's always stood. All the pro- and anti-vaxx sentiments, pro- and anti-Olympic athlete debates, and other divisive items that have occupied Deplorable nation since Jan 20 were washed away, even if temporarily.

We saw - and, sadly, I guess we need to be reminded - there is Something Greater than all this stuff that has kept some of us at each other's throats. And despite our differences, we are all unified in knowing how bad this is.

I haven't seen one FReeper say "well, ya know this is partly Trump's fault" or "Biden couldn't have done anything." Everyone sees with their own eyes that the guy in the chair - even if he's suffering from dementia - told the world very recently that what we are seeing, wouldn't happen. We are in the catbird seat, man, cmon. Wow...how delusional is this Admin? This is a choke on par with the Atlanta Falcons in SB51.

Saigon stuck in people's minds for a LONG time. I suspect, while the MSM and the leftists et al will blame Trump (notice how Bush gets a pass), most normal Americans will see Kabul fall while the Admin is on vacation. I hope it sticks, because this isn't just a small internal matter.

What do we do with this small burst of wind? As you said, come closer to God, use this as a teachable moment for our children so that THEY never forget, and keep the focus on this Admin's colossal failure to mis-estimate this situation.

Great post! I agree with most of it except “to be prudent with your finances”. It’s not that I disagree with being prudent with finances, but rather with the notion that finances in dollar terms will still exist. The nation is bankrupt and if the house of cards collapses as you describe, Americans will be using trillion dollar tender for tinder to boil our daily water.

All of this fills my heart with shame and sorrow as we watch another set of people who trusted us suffer and die. We have done this before and it is unsurprising that we will run out of anyone who will trust us and our words again.

I was there in 1965 when we started out and again there in 1975 when just let everything collapse. We elected Democrats and a whole lot of us (including some who show up on this site) breathed a sigh of relief because their skins were now safe, no matter what it cost the poor Vietnamese and no matter how many of our lives were sacrificed in the war up till then.

The country that we had been has passed into history.
