I also like listening to Julie London records, not so much because of her smoky voice but because I like her musical settings and from what I understand she recorded the number of albums in her living room with Jazz combos.
And of course there’s the Jackie Gleason romantic torch albums with Bobby Hackett on trumpet, whew...

You kind of get the opinion that the people of South America like Tom Sawyer.

I love that song, used it in the HS jazz band concert. Not easy to play.

Paul Simon said āif you hear one of your songs on an elevator, youāve made itā
Del Shannon recounted that his mother loved hearing his massive hit "Runaway" when Lawrence Welk performed it.

Iām standing there talking to my coworker on a Dutch ship, with Dutch officers, drinking a Heineken beer, and listening to ABBA music. How Dutch Can you get, without being Dutch?
ABBA is Swedish. Golden Earring is Dutch, but they sing "Radar Love" in English even when they perform it in the Netherlands.

Don McLean appeared here a couple of years ago and performed the first 47 verses. He was scheduled to come back last year and finish but the plague made him cancel.

Yeah, but Toni Tennille’s voice is as clear as a bell. I think Tony is one of the most underrated female vocalist of that era. She had an absolutely wonderful voice.

I didn’t mind that song, but the fast-paced climax of it sounds like an intro to a 1970s-era newscast.

Did you know that the band that does that song is mostly white, including the lead singer?

āSpiritā came out when I was a senior in high school, part of what made that song a hit was it capitalized on the āJesus Freakā movement: Former dope smoking hippies that suddenly ( and temporarily) found God. That song became their anthem.
Forgive me, but I like the song. ;)

I had wondered about that.....I only heard the song on the radio over the years. I never saw the band in a visual medium.
But I still don’t like the song.

No worries about not liking it, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
The band that did the song was basically a garage band that played minor gigs around town. That song started as an instrumental jam, to warm up and caught on when someone in the audience said: āhey, play that funky music white boyā. They added the lyric and became a one hit wonder.
