Why was an obscure local holiday like Juneteenth chosen to commemorate the ending of slavery, and not the date of the Emancipation Proclamation? I believe the answer is because making it the date of the Emancipation Proclamation made it too obvious it was REPUBLICANS who ended slavery! Which, by the way, you should point out to anyone making a big to-do about Juneteenth.

I wondered that myself. Has to be political. The left calls it independence day, as if to replace July 4.

Too much football and drinking on January 1 to let a little actual history come into play.

We have now Father’s day as federal holiday.
Now we need to do the same for Mother’s day

Why was an obscure local holiday like Juneteenth chosen to commemorate the ending of slavery, and not the date of the Emancipation Proclamation? January 1st already has a holiday.

My theory is that the U.S. is following the Canadian model of fabricating national holidays out of thin air just to ensure that there’s one in every month.
Maybe we can celebrate the day MLK got his driver’s license or Malcolm X got his first haircut … but only if those things happened in March, April or August!

I have to just shake my head on the democrats embracing Juneteenth. That is the day that Republicans ended the democrat’s ownership of slaves. They really have a problem grasping actual history. If I was a right of center talking head, every show I was on I would remind people of that.

June has no holiday. Nice warm day with good weather, unlike the other traditional black holidays in January (MLK’s birthday) and February (black history month). Too cold, no good times to be had on a day off in the winter.

... Malcolm X got his first haircut...That’s pretty funny. Ever read his autobiography? His description of the excruciating pain he endured to straighten his hair is hilarious.

The Proclamation was effective Jan 1 1863. New Years Day. And it only freed slaves in states in rebellion. Missouri, Ky, Md were not affected.

The historical fact that the Juneteenth crowd gets wrong is that slavery continued to legally exist in Kentucky and Delaware until the Thirteenth Amendment was officially certified by Secretary of State Seward, on December 18, 1865. The military proclamation in Texas did nothing for these people. Just like election laws and actual ballot counts, facts mean nothing to the woke crowd. The propaganda is everything to them. This is another law that will be declared null and void when the Biden regime is exposed as a fraud.
