Why was an obscure local holiday like Juneteenth chosen to commemorate the ending of slavery, and not the date of the Emancipation Proclamation?

January 1st already has a holiday.

June has no holiday. Nice warm day with good weather, unlike the other traditional black holidays in January (MLK’s birthday) and February (black history month). Too cold, no good times to be had on a day off in the winter.

So does this weekend. It’s called Father’s Day. That day annoys certain communities so they are trying to overshadow it.
