Schumer on electric cars: 'All vehicles on the road should be clean' by 2040

"There is no way the United States can reduce its greenhouse gas emissions without looking at how Americans drive," Schumer says.

=========================================================================

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says every vehicle on the road should be fully electric by 2040.

"There is no way the United States can reduce its greenhouse gas emissions without looking at how Americans drive," Schumer said on Tuesday. "So I have put forward an ambitious, comprehensive proposal to accelerate our country's transition to zero-emission vehicles. We've called it Clean Cars for America.

"The goal of that plan is that by 2040, all vehicles should be clean. All vehicles on the road should be clean. The International Energy Agency, by the way, recommends the world reach that target by 2050, so we beat them by 10 years, if this proposal goes into effect."

Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) rolled out an Electrifying America's Future bill on Tuesday that is focused on federal funding for electrification of "residential and commercial construction, transportation, and industrial sectors."

File Electrifying America's Future Bill.pdf "Electric vehicles, despite the fact that they have a lower cost of ownership, despite the fact that they're a lot more fun to drive, speaking personally, I've got both, they have become just another weapon in the culture wars," Heinrich said. "That said, they're a giant opportunity for us to build cars here in America that we can export to the rest of the world. I for one am very much looking forward to Ford rolling out their electric F150 here this week, that's the kind of investment in the future of America that we should be making."

A recent study found that China's greenhouse gas emissions exceed emissions from the U.S. and other developed countries combined.

Biden's $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan includes $174 billion in "electrification" spending, which is aimed at competing with China and combating climate change. A White House fact sheet explains the plan's premise and goals:

"U.S. market share of plug-in electric vehicle (EV) sales is only one-third the size of the Chinese EV market. The President believes that must change. He is proposing a $174 billion investment to win the EV market.

"It will give consumers point of sale rebates and tax incentives to buy American-made EVs, while ensuring that these vehicles are affordable for all families and manufactured by workers with good jobs. It will establish grant and incentive programs for state and local governments and the private sector to build a national network of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030, while promoting strong labor, training, and installation standards."

Heinrich said he hopes Congress passes a large infrastructure bill before the August recess.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said that "sooner than later we need to seize this moment."

Schumer said organized labor supports the Biden Administration increasing federal investment in electrification.

"For a long time, critics said you can't help the environment without hurting the economy or costing jobs," he said. "Not so: It's actually the reverse. We negotiated the Clean Cars for America proposal with the unions, with the environmental groups, and with the auto companies, and all three are on board."

While electric vehicles produce less direct emissions on the road than fuel-efficient gas or diesel vehicles, some studies have shown that the production of electric vehicles emits more emissions compared to conventional vehicles.

During the 2020 Democratic presidential race, then-Sen. Kamala Harris supported banning the sale of diesel and electric vehicles by 2035. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), who was appointed to fill Harris' seat, supports banning the sale of vehicles with diesel and gas engines and is reportedly lobbying the White House to adopt a ban.

So they will declare that your car becomes illegal at a certain date. It will be worth nothing at that point. They will have stolen money from you.

Plus, at that time, all the electric cars will be connected to Big Central Computer, benevolently named “Traffic Control System”. That computer system will monitor your driving and send you a bill for miles driven. You will pay additional taxes if you drive “too many miles”. The system will disable your car during periods of “declared emergency,” so you will be limited to drive only where the system allows you to drive.

Do not doubt me (thanks, Rush). They will do this. They aren’t going to install any system without taking full advantage of its capabilities to take away as many of our rights as they can.

Schumer on elections: ‘All elections must be clean’ by 2040

Just think of all the jobs that will be created in the environmental/remediation sector when all gas stations are closed and the underground tanks need to be dug up.

I don’t see how going to clean is even feasible. If every car was electric, every service area on 95 would have to have their own power plant to supply the electric. And where would that power come from? Fossil fuels?
And you would have to stop at every service area to top off your battery or sit at one for 8 hrs if you’re empty. Imagine the log jams.

It’s not just freedom of movement, it’s centralization of control of electrical power. If they can force everyone to charge their motors from a wall outlet, they can subsequently control the availability of that power. Over your monthly electricity usage limit? Aww, your power is now off until the first of next month. Enjoy the stone age!

"There is no way the United States can reduce its greenhouse gas emissions without looking at how Americans drive," Schumer says.

Why don't you go to China, Schumer, the #1 polluter in the world, and tell THEM to cut back their greenhouse gas emissions.

Or is this A-OK?

Let Chuck Schumer start by never using a combustion vehicle ever again, starting today. Let his protection detail drive one as well.

Let the U.S. Secret Service drive Jao Bai-Din around in an electric vehicle, again, starting today.

Yes, that’s what I see as the goal of their plan. Want to go somewhere? We’ll have to look at your social score, your energy usage, and the importance of you and your trip.

I keep telling folks that one of the side effects of this pandemic is the restriction of travel. The days of carefree tourist travel by the masses is done.

I never understood why people do that with a perfectly clean car.

Kind of like parachute jumping from a perfectly good airplane.

It’s all about justifying government subsidies to the likes of Tesla to drive up their already overvalued stock prices IMO. It has nothing to do with greenhouse gasses.
