Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died at age 99, the royal family announced Friday.
Philip and the queen were married for more than 70 years, making him the longest-serving spouse of a reigning British monarch. He was the oldest-ever male member of the British royal family.
Philip was born on the Greek island of Corfu on June 10, 1921, to Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

I met and had a meal with him in 1989. He was very entertaining, and very nice, and I remember he cussed a few times, which I found odd.
The first two seasons of “The Crown” were broadly accurate but took liberties with details.
The later seasons are much less accurate.
I think you misunderstood me. I am talking about Charles deciding not to make a new creation of the title after it has merged into the crown. Elizabeth can not force the actions of future monarchs.

Philip served with distinction in His Royal Navy during WW2.
He could have had a career in the the British Navy. Instead he served the Crown(his wife). He easily could have been a flag officer.
His kind of humor is lost on the daft, easily offended types. I like it!
Another chapter ends in the world’s longest running soap opera. That said, he did serve Britain with distinction in WWII.

His contemporaries are on record that he had the talent and drive to become First Sea Lord. (equivalent to Chief of Naval Operations).
