This set of sounds from the surface of Mars were recorded by the microphone on the side of NASA’s Perseverance Rover on Feb. 20, 2021. In the first set, sounds from the rover itself dominate. In the second set, the sound was filtered to make sounds from Mars more audible. You can hear a little wind in the second set.
This is the first time a Mars rover has been equipped with a microphone.

And I can't wait for someone to process the audio and say...
Scooby snacks and a big sandwich at the malt shop?
Shurely, a cacophony of mouse farts.
“It’s nothing spectacular-sounding, but the whole idea is very cool. Of course, brought to you by the USA.”
It is kind of awesome. Sadly, this is likely the last hurrahs for NASA. Master Xi will “appropriate” much of the tech and produce some amazing space events, under the Chinese flag. Joe Xiden will do his part by gutting NASA.
And the Dems will be more than happy to spend those tax dollars on their own schemes.
Excerpt from the audio:
“No one would have believed in the last years of the the reign of Schmedlap IV that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than Martians’ and yet as mortal as his own; that as Martians busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinized and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a Martian with a microscope might scrutinize the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.
With infinite complacency Martians went to and fro over this red globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter.
At most, Martians fancied there might be other beings upon Earth, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a missionary enterprise. Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this Mars with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.”
They are afraid of US. Who knew, right?
I was shocked that they never had a microphone on a rover before. I would think there would be a whole bunch of stuff you can learn from sounds.
One of my kids is a rocket engineer. (literally)
He was very geeked up about the mic from mars.
Perfect!
Wait till NASA is populated with multi-gendered equity engineers that employ the post “White-Priviledge” math, and who think that close is good enough.
There will be a lot of “unexpected” catastrophes and failures culminating in the abandonment of our space program, because math is hard!
I wonder who got the billion dollar contract to produce a microphone for the rover.
It’s unfathomable to me that there wasn’t a microphone prior. Serious lack of research acumen there.
Wow! I just switched to KGRA and they’re playing the intro theme to Into The Fray, an audio of those very lines as written by H. G. Wells...
I’ve spectacular hearing but any sound registered with me was as empty programming space on the telly.
Like, nothing.
Maybe it was, that if someone watched the equalizer registering bars and spikes, surely it made me look like a dolt.
Sad but true. America is no longer exceptional because equal opportunity has been replaced by equality (equity) in results. Even Elon Musk's destiny is with the CCP because that is where the markets and profit potential lay.
“There will be a lot of “unexpected” catastrophes and failures culminating in the abandonment of our space program, because math is hard!”
Well, of course, math is racist! NASA will excel at muslim outreach while it’s collection of confused kiddies navel gaze while spacecraft tumble to who knows where.
and they call the wind mariah
Before long they will be wanting to plant a rainbow flag on Uranus.
I expect that to happen when the new Wuhan virus screening test is implemented.
It would be awesome if when they cracked the mike on the Rover, the first audio that was heard was music from the Pretenders followed by Rush’s opening monologue.
Liberal heads would instantly explode.
