The Ohio House passed a controversial “stand your ground” measure on Thursday that would eliminate any “duty to retreat” before using force in self-defense.
Senate Bill 175, which now must clear another Senate vote before heading to Gov. Mike DeWine, is the latest attempt by legislative Republicans to make Ohio the 36th state to no longer require a duty to retreat before using force.
House Republicans added the “stand your ground” language via a last-minute floor amendment to SB 175, which grants civil immunity to churches and other nonprofits where shootings occur.
Under existing Ohio law, people are justified in using deadly force in self-defense so long as they aren’t the aggressor, believe they are in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm, and are in their home or vehicle.
The amendment would remove the “home or vehicle” requirement, and instead state that the defendant need only be in a place where they lawfully have the right to be...

For your consideration.
Will the governor sign it?
Note that none of the Democrats can actually articulate a real objection to the law other than crying “racism.” There is absolutely no reason this law should even be controversial. The idea that an American should have a duty to retreat before defending his life in public is ludicrous.
Excellent.
Does stand your ground count when it’s tyranny at the door? Asking for a friend...
Isn’t Ohio contemplating constitutional carry?
at the door... that would be the existing castle doctrine. no problems there!
Next stop, constitutional carry.
The demoncrats are trying to make this a moot issue. If they get their way you will lack the “arms” necessary to stand your ground.
Need civil immunity for all who aren’t convicted of a crime in defense situations.
He d better sign it
NaN Whaley Dayton mayor makes a big deal of gun control because of the Oregon district shooting. She has no authority

“ should come as no surprise that the social media accounts of Dayton, Ohio, mass shooter and self-proclaimed Satan worshiper Connor Betts, were whitewashed from the internet shortly after the coward gunned down his own sister, killed 9 and injured 26 others early Sunday morning.”.
“Will the governor sign it?”
Dewine is struggling here with conservatives. I think he may sign it in the interest of self-preservation.
Outstanding!!!
But free people don’t need permission to defend themselves.
Sad we have to even debate such concepts.
Good to see this and hope our gov signs it. Have my appt on Wed for my CC. Never too old (64).
Totally agree!
Getting better though.

Convert your house to a church or a non-profit. :-)

They don’t want victims shooting their voters. Easy to comprehend. The real need for a new law I stand your ground against agents of the government who are violating the constitution. I would love to read the language of that law.
Police get away with murder many times claiming their lives were in danger. If you shoot a rouge cop, your still going to jail. To me that is just one reason why blue lives don’t matter more. That and the fact that they will do politicians bidding due to 25 year of service and $125K per year pension .....
In real life situations the words “and are in their home or vehicle” are meaningless.
If you ‘believe they are in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm” it doesn’t matter where you are you have entered Self Defense Mode and have lost the ability to retreat. If try to back away from the danger you have put yourself at a strategic disadvantage due to not being able to see what is behind you and easily losing your balance.
Turning and running also puts you at a strategic disadvantage. You can no longer see your opponent, and unless you are a world class sprinter there is a good chance your opponent will outrun you (someone old like myself would have a hard time outrunning a five-year-old) and injure you by tackling you to the ground. If your attacker has a firearm, he may shoot you in the back.
Once you are in fear for your life you have little choice but to use deadly force if it is available to you.
I bet ANTIFA and BLM aren’t happy about this.
