Officials say a wild mink in Utah tested positive for the coronavirus.
Story at a glance
The USDA has been carrying out screenings of species around mink farms in Utah, Michigan and Wisconsin for several months over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic to determine if the virus has spread to nearby wildlife.
A mink found in the immediate vicinity of one of the affected farms is the only wild animal caught in the area to test positive.
“To our knowledge, this is the 1st free-ranging, native wild animal confirmed with SARS-CoV-2,” USDA officials wrote.
The first known case of coronavirus in a wild animal in the U.S. has been reported in Utah, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

USDA officials said a wild mink in Utah tested positive for the coronavirus during surveillance of wildlife around mink farms that have experienced outbreaks. The USDA has been carrying out screening of species around mink farms in Utah, Michigan and Wisconsin for several months over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic to determine if the virus has spread to nearby wildlife.
The National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) said the viral genome taken from the wild mink was indistinguishable from that in infected mink on farms around the state.
“The [NVSL] has confirmed SARS-CoV-2 by real time RT-PCR and sequencing of a nasal swab collected from a free-ranging, wild mink sampled in Utah,” USDA officials wrote.
“To our knowledge, this is the 1st free-ranging, native wild animal confirmed with SARS-CoV-2.”
The mink was found in the immediate vicinity of one of the affected farms and is the only wild animal caught in the area to test positive.
“There is currently no evidence that SARS-CoV-2 is circulating or has been established in wild populations surrounding the infected mink farms,” the USDA wrote.
Mink farms have been particularly hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak. In Denmark and other parts of Europe, millions of mink on farms around the country have been culled following widespread outbreaks.
The virus has been found in other captive wild animals, including tigers, lions and snow leopards, as well as in dogs and cats.
That’s okay. Biden will order them all to wear masks.
Dogs get coronavirus all the time.
It’s called kennel cough and it goes away on its own.
You don't and you can't make them.....................
OAC caught it?
Good times.
Reminds me of how they found that one grape laced with cyanide among a whole ship full of grapes from Chile back in the 1990's.
They seem to be real good at finding chit that they want to find, but they have a tough time on the sort of things that citizens find important, elections, government corruption...that kind of stuff.
My 2003 GMC Envoy Denali has it, and it hasn’t left the garage in about a year! WTF!!!
So this happened in Utah.
Romney will likely blame Trump for it.
Talk about dirty jobs! Taking nasal swabs from wild mink.
Now we have to start enforcing social distancing and masks on animals!
Oh no. The sky is falling.
The world is coming to an end.
WaPo:
Women, children, the poor and minorities hardest hit!.................
Just wait until covid-18 catches covid-19. Then we know it is the end of the world as we know it.
“Rosie O’Donnell?”
It said mink not STINK!
Guessing the mink was unavailable for comment.
Well no duh, a mink can get the corona virus.
The Chinese military bioweapons lab in wuhan used ferrets to rapidly produce a mutation of the vivid with an ACE-2 receptor affinity to easily infect humans.
Ferrets and mink are from the same family of Mustelinae. Their ACE-2 receptors are similar to humans.
Absolutely, you are correct, it IS an attack on the food supply to create shortages, starvation, and vegan BS.
First it was mink. But in Denmark they slaughtered the animals and took the carcasses away on trucks. Many reports of dead minks, blood, guts, strewn all over the streets - for this oh so very deadly plague. They would have BURNED them on site if there was any danger.
Next up? PIGS because your masters are offended by them, and chickens and beef, all because of faked PCR tests and stupid claims of fake CV19.
Great video with webpage news articles about these events worldwide. Oh, and 60% of soy from Brazil is “bad” and banned because deforestation, putting the most vulnerable 2nd and 3rd world small farmers unable to feed their animals.
Enjoy your starvation, here is your bowl of Bill Gates Soylent Green.
