Something smells rotten on Staten Island — and it’s not the old dump.
Residents believe the stench is coming from Albany.
The borough’s beloved Joyce’s Tavern — which has a heavy FDNY constituency — lost its liquor license following a “surprise, random” visit during a 9/11 fundraiser on Sept. 11 by State Liquor Authority (SLA) inspectors.
The Irish pub’s supporters say the raid was a political hit job, and that a new videotape will soon prove the bar and grill did nothing wrong — and could exonerate it as soon as this coming week.
Tavern backers believe the ill-timed raid was retaliation by Gov. Cuomo for a lawsuit filed just days earlier against him, as well as the city and Mayor de Blasio, by Joyce’s and other crippled Island restaurants demanding they be allowed to reopen.

Joyce’s Tavern was helping to raise money for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation on 9/11 when Cuomo struck. The States fine of 25k was the same amount raised by the fundraising that day. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation builds mortgage free homes for families of fallen veterans...Thankfully a go fund me page helped Joyce’s Tavern...The infraction was ridiculously petty...Cuomo is such a vindictive creep..

When the government fears the people, you have freedom and liberty. Past time to put a load of fear in these commies. And the people who elect them to office.
Well when you mess with the Mafia then they always get revenge.
DP is on the other side of the Island. This is a local pub for me. The community is trying to help out by ordering as much take out from them as possible to keep them afloat. Had dinner from them the other night.
They are strong supporters of first responders and were fundraising for the foundation that embarrassed Cuomo by privately funding the tribute in light for 911. This caused the state to reverse its decision to scrap it this year for the 19th anniversary. Not sure if the raid during a fundraiser was planned, but it sure stinks.
They catch and release just about every piece of scum in New York because of their "no bail" policy.
Now I did. I truly only get my news here.
I was never a big frequenter of Irish pubs out here but it is a shame.
At 52, I am not much on the bar circuit anymore but it is what it is and I’m just glad I got to live my youth in the Rudy Giuliani days.
I am now officially one of those old folks who refuses to leave his home even as things around him/her change at a quick pace.
Maybe voters will come to their senses or maybe not.
But this is my home guys.

That’s what I don’t get about all the fleeing the past decades.
We had a republican governor and mayor (not conservative but republican) and had the senate.
Working harder to get them to be what we wanted or replace them with an R that would be would have been a much better strategy than leaving. That’s surrender.
And what a poignant comment by my Hero, The Great One.
II hate the comparison between The Great One and Trump, with most saying Trump has been better.
Trump is here. and now. And that is always easier to judge.
And what The Great One inherited and had to change is forgotten.
I say they are BOTH great and it should be left at that.
After all, there may have been no US to save had The Great One not been elected.
And if the owner voted for a democrat at any point in the last 40 years, that owners deserves the government he asked for....good and hard.
