Gov. Wolf administration asks restaurants to self-certify: Here’s what that means, and how to do it

Restaurants in Pennsylvania are being asked to self-certify with the state that they are following the COVID-19 guidelines. And those that do will be permitted to increase their capacity.

The self-certification for restaurants requires them to submit online through the DCED’s website that they meet all of the state’s coronavirus prevention guidelines. The submission form will be available online starting on September 21.

“Self-certifying your establishment shows your employees and customers that you care about their health and well-being, and demonstrates your commitment to helping mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the commonwealth,” said Secretary Dennis Davin of the Department of Economic Development. “This process is a simple, commonsense way for restaurants to increase their capacity and put themselves on the path to financial recovery, all while taking the necessary steps to protect their communities.”

There is no penalty for businesses that choose not to go through with the self-certification process. However, those that do self-certify will be permitted to increase their indoor occupancy to 50 percent of their usual occupancy limit. This doubles the current 25 percent limit due to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Restaurants that complete the process will also be entered into an online database informing customers of which restaurants have completed the process, and they will also receive items such as window signage from the state announcing that they have met the state’s requirements.

There is no cost for the self-certification, though restaurants with multiple locations will have to certify individually for each location.

Governor Wolf announced in early September that the self-certification process would coincide with the expansion of restaurant capacity on September 21. The administration has released a list answering frequently asked questions about the process, as well as an updated restaurant guidance list. The deadline for the online self-certification process is October 5.

For those with additional questions about the self-certification process, email covidselfcert@pa.gov.

Most restaurant owners are saying the increase in capacity isn't worth the aggravation.

They rightly suspect that the "self-certified" will be subject to more frequent and more intense inspection.

The final criterion for self-certification is that the statements made may be construed as an "unsworn falsification" under the criminal statues for forgery; meaning that if just one customer is seen leaving without a mask the restaurant owner could face a felony prosecution.

Why must they continue to follow his guidelines which were declared unconstitutional?

Shouldn’t all this crap be over given the Federal Court ruling on Monday? Wolf can go eff himself.

He cannot hold restauran owners under his fist like this...he's already in trouble for his hard hitting regulations which by the way are unconstitutional....

If restaurants comply/respond as he wants then they're willingly putting their businesses fully under his control and deserve to fail.

The Governor wields the club of revoking licenses (Department of Agriculture for restaurants PLUS Liquor Control & Enforcment for those with license for alcohol sales).

These regulatory agencies set their standards more or less independently of the general regulation established through the Department of Health (DOH)

ONLY the DOH-issued capacity limit regulations were set aside by the court decision.

My daughter is going bar hopping in Harrisburg this evening. I asked her to give me an update on what’s happening down around the Capitol.

What happened to the vote the PA legislature was supposed to take (overriding his veto of their last attempt to rein him in?)

Stinks of goalpost moving - Wolfie is losing from a legal & legislative standpoint, so a stunt was hatched for keeping the grasp on power.

Attempt at voiding the general shut down regulations was struck down by the Democrap appellate courts.

Wolf has not vetoed the bill to give local school districts sole discretion and power on whether or not to have school, whether or not to have school sports, and whether or not to allow spectators....yet.

Both chambers claim to have veto-proof supermajorities.

In the past, Wolf has allowed some legislation to take effect without his signature. That would be the smart thing to do with this one.

But Wolf is a megalomaniac and has taken all of these closure orders way too personally.

Very surprising that a leftist skunk like Wolf is giving up without a fight. He knows how bad that would make Democrats look. Either way they lose. If judge says the decision stands - Democrats lose. If judge overturns it - Democrats lose. Too bad the Pennsylvania rats are smart enough to figure this out.

I would also be interested in knowing that.

I’ve never been to PA, and I’ve thought about vacationing there for no other reason than I’ve always wanted a real, true, Philly Cheesesteak, because I’ve heard about them all my life. I’ve had the Arby’s version, and it’s a good sandwich, but I’d bet it’s not the same. Maybe not even close.

But with the psycho maniac and his psycho cohorts running the place, any plans to go there are on indefinite hold and very low on the priority list.

“But Wolf is a megalomaniac and has taken all of these closure orders way too personally.”

You can see it in every photo of him. He has a very high opinion of himself, and it seems to create an aura of creepiness around him.

Wolf is like Mark Zuckerberg...every pic I see of either of them makes me want to punch them square in the face.

It's not.

And the Arby's "Greek Gyro" doesn't come anywhere close to the real thing.

It clearly states owners do not have to comply to this ‘self certification’....therfore don’t. That simple.
