Four years ago, Don Sabbe made what he calls a devastating mistake. Determined only to cast a vote for a candidate he believed in, he left the top of his ballot blank in the 2016 presidential election. This year, the 83-year old former Chrysler employee says hell definitely vote for Joe Biden, but hes getting concerned about Bidens campaign here in Michigan.
I cant even find a sign, Sabbe says outside a Krogers in Sterling Heights, where surrounding cars fly massive Donald Trump flags that say No More Bullsh-t and fellow shoppers wear Trump T-shirts for their weekend grocery runs. Im looking for one of those storefronts. Im looking for a campaign office for Biden. And Im not finding one.

Great quote from article:
When I ask Biden campaign staffers and Democratic Party officials how many people they have on the ground in Michigan, one reply stuck out: What do you mean by on the ground?’
Union Chrysler employee going to vote for the guy who put NAFTA into place.
And take his guns.
I saw a Biden ad on one of the local TV stations the other night...right full of lies about the POTUS and taking credit for what the POTUS has done. They’re despicable, and wouldn’t expect anything less from communists.
While Basementman cowers in his basement only occasionally venturing out to a nearby cornfield, Trump is running an actual campaign.

LOL...so it depends on what the definition of ground is?
“This year, the 83-year old former Chrysler employee says hell definitely vote for Joe Biden”
No fool like an old fool. Yeah there ya go vote for a C student with dementia to be President.
Age doesnt always equate to wisdom. This man is clueless at 83!
I’ve seen lots of Trump signs in my travels around the state, but precious few Biden signs.
That trend is changing, however. Biden signs are beginning to pop up like mushrooms after a summer rain.
Today, this wise Democrat will vote for Biden, a candidate he can believe in? Believe in what, Don?
Poor Don can't figure out why there is Trump placement everywhere but no Biden. He CAN'T figure it out.
Guess someone in Biden's campaign looked up what "on the ground" means.
Sounds good but while the troops on the ground may be missing Biden’s ads are everywhere. He is clearly going for the Trump voters who backed Barky. His ads are all over nostalgia TV like METV, H&I, Charge, Comet. Since the two conventions the Dems have raised 2x the $$ as Trump and the GOP. I have not yet seen a Trump ad and there are reports of ad buys being pulled in Mich, Wisconsin, and Pa. I do not think this is positive news.
I live on Lake St Clair water, probably 1 in 20 boats have a Trump flag, never seen a boat with a Biden flag.
However, last Sunday went to the farmer’s market in New Baltimore and was surprised to see a Biden face mask. Also there is one Biden sign on 10 miles on M29 between New Baltimore and Algonac, probably 50 or more Trump signs/flags.
This is mostly blue collar worker area that looks to be Trump country.
Yeah, I caught that one too. It tells me that the Dem pros have been sidelined in favor of people who apparently don't know how politics works in the United States. Trump, for all the media bitching to the contrary, is a very conventional politician running a very traditional campaign - rallies, lots of patriotic optics, and a knack of rising over hostile media that he's developed to a high art over four years of furious resistance. To them it seems uncanny, which suggests to me that the old pros in the media have given way to a new generation with all the passion and none of the savvy.
And worse, Trump's side appears to understand electronic media better than the Dems. One look at the optics of the Dem campaign to this point reminds me of people encountering the Internet for the first time and who think it's all about home room meetings and porn. The Dem convention was laughable. The debates - well, certain FReepers whose opinions I respect suggested yesterday that that Town Hall was as close as we're going to get, with ABC staffers taking the place of the hapless Gropin' Joe. It isn't going to work for them that way. No air game, so to speak, to match no ground game. Seven weeks to go.
I love this line:
The Biden campaign calls her for help finding Republican women who might be inclined to vote for Biden (you might as well ask me to find you a unicorn, she says)
Goldman of Fems for Dems says shes ready to dispatch her army of women to knock on doors for Biden, if only the campaign would ask. The Biden campaign calls her for help finding Republican women who might be inclined to vote for Biden (you might as well ask me to find you a unicorn, she says), but not for help recruiting volunteers to knock doors. I want them to ask me, Give us a hundred womens names and let us send them out like soldiers into the neighborhoods. Shes worried that focusing entirely on phone calls and emails means ignoring voters who may not show up in the data. If youre not in the system, she says, Joe Biden doesnt even know how to reach you.
Besides, she adds, Michigan is opening up. If youre allowed to go to Michaels, or youre allowed to go to Target, I dont see why they cant go to a campaign office, Goldman continues. Her voice starts to shake as she adds: Im afraid were losing. Im afraid were going to lose.
He's the un-candidate. (remember the old un-cola ads for 7 up?)
On the other hand my experience living in Michigan for five years was that Michiganders are incredibly blunt and outspoken.
If he gets out into the wild with spontaneous voter contact it’s unlikely to go well for him.
