To watch Donald Trump on the stump is to wonder if this is a campaign with a strategy. To study the Trump re-election effort in Pennsylvania is to understand the carefully calculated bet it is making.
Pennsylvania is becoming ground zero of the 2020 election. Commentators tend to forget that Mr. Trump in 2016 won 304 electoral votes, 34 more than a majority. He can afford to lose a Michigan or Wisconsin. But he has few paths to the White House without the Keystone State. The president knows it; hes dive-bombing the state. And Joe Biden knows it, making it his new basement.
Conventional wisdom is that Pennsylvania is the perfect example of why Mr. Trump will lose. Critics point to the bleed Mr. Trump has suffered among suburban voters, in particular the collar counties around Philadelphia. The president, they say, is too toxic personally to win those voters back, while his rural base isnt enough to offset the deficit. It is a simple and tidy analysisand therefore one that misses the complexity of a modern presidential race.
One flawed assumption is that Mr. Trumps forgotten man vote is static. The campaign has spent the past few years diligently recruiting more of those disaffected citizens. In 2016 registered Democrats outnumbered Republicans in the state by about 920,000. Since that time, the Democratic advantage has narrowed to about 760,000a 160,000-voter gain in a state Mr. Trump won by 44,000 votes.
In rural counties, the campaign has kept hitting themes that will drive these new voters to the polls. In a recent speech in Latrobe, Mr. Trump warned that Mr. Biden would take away your guns, ship jobs to China, and sit silent as rioters rampage.

Why do suburban women support riots and arson?
When Sex In The City and Desperate Housewives became mandatory education for American women everywhere, it showed our disgusting problem with such women.
I have an old classmate who is involved in PA campaign. Im sure he was busy with RNC. But I will ask him about this article.
For the same reason they wear a stupid COVID diaper on their faces even while driving alone. Theyre morons.
They are only seeing the Burning, Looting, and Murder (BLM) in the cities. They don't live in cities, so it doesn't bother them. They think they are geographically isolated from the chaos. And they are, at least for now.
They dont and are coming back to the Trump camp
Suburban women now mostly have worthless degrees and believe themselves to be enlightened and educated but in reality they have been indoctrinated.
I’m a suburban woman in a Philly collar suburb. My observations (anecdotal) on why so many women here are turned off by Trump is because “he’s mean”, especially on Twitter. Couple that with a weird brainwashed belief that Democrats are “nice, inclusive, and for the little people” and the newly created “white privilege” guilt and you have a trifecta.
But we’re not all morons, and we aren’t monolithic, I know there are many around here like me, who don’t buy into the BS and don’t get all their news from the mainstream media.
Let’s hear it for blue collar, white guys!
Because OrangeManBad is what they are told from their news sources.
Rape fantasies involving rioting monkeyboys.
Only way Trump losses PA is by massive mail in voting fraud...
On the ground, its not even close, no matter what the media are claiming
Love how conservatives inside the beltway have to assume the polls are right no matter how many times they are proved to be fake.
The last time a Repub led in the polls was Lincoln.
I’m also in a collar suburb and agree with your observations. We are surrounded by virtue signalling yard signs and women who walk in lockstep. They think of themselves as educated and intellectual because they are well informed via the propaganda pipeline. They parrot talking points and go to church-sponsored seminars on white privilege. It can be a lonely place for conservative women. Voting D is a deep part of their identities and many of them equate it with women’s rights. There is also a big alignment of D voting with ‘a woman’s right to choose’ as it’s so euphemistically stated. Unfortunately, many of them drag their husbands along like errant children.
Vote fraud is always a big factor in PA.
There aren't many things I despise more than divorce, but ...
Suburban women? Have they read about “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Act” That Biden has promised to reauthorize? The banning of of single family zoning and the building of Section 8 low income housing in the suburbs?
——Have they read about-——
Certainly you jest. They never read. Reading is hard.
They only gossip and achieve a baseless consensus.
