Jerry Falwell Jr., the son of late evangelical leader Jerry Falwell, revealed Sunday that his wife had an affair with a family friend that sent him into a depression he described as like living on a roller coaster.
The admission follows Falwell Jr. being placed on indefinite leave from his post as president of Liberty University two weeks ago, after a controversy surrounding a racy Instagram photo he had posted.
In a statement sent to the Washington Examiner, Falwell admitted that his wife, Becki Falwell, struck up an inappropriate personal relationship with a Florida pool boy who worked at one of the familys properties.

Falwell is a disgrace as is his wife. All true Christians know we are all sinners saved by grace, but covering up this kind of thing instead of admitting fault and asking for forgiveness and understanding reveals that the Falwells have no place at the helm of what they claim was built through God's provision.
Further questions must be asked:
1. What else lies beneath the surface of the Falwells' personal lives AND impressive personal wealth.
2. What did Jerry's brother Jonathan know and when did he know it? Jonathan is senior pastor at Thomas Road Baptist Church. The elders of that very successful church, which is situated on the Liberty campus, will likely be asking Jonathan that very pointed question.
3. How will the Liberty University Board of Trustees deal with this? They have appointed an interim president, but clearly some kind of top-to-bottom revue of Liberty's finances is in order.
4. How will Liberty heal the damage inflicted on the school, the students and faculty by the Falwell's self-serving sin and continuing lies and deception?
5. Will there be legal repercussions taken against the Falwells by the Trustees and against the University by alumni and parents of current students? After all, students have invested tens of thousands of dollars in their educations at LU only to see the school's reputation tainted by these fools.
6. The Falwells have given the godless Left exactly what they want: ammunition against conservative Christianity. The Falwells will likely be seen in the same light as Jimmy Swaggart.
My advice to the Falwells: Don't hire a PR firm to slowly admit and spin what lies beneath. Make a thorough admission, ask forgiveness and go away. Your continued presence in Lynchburg is a blight on the school and affront to Christians everywhere.
His personal life is out of control and he has proven he only makes things worse.
As president of a Christian university he should have had the COMMON SENSE to not do anything that even appeared inappropriate.
He's either stupid or inept. Either way, given his lack of reasonable personal actions he's proven himself to be incapable of leading any organization be it a Christian school or the head of a company.
No business can prosper when the leader is the focus of ridicule.
Appalachian Trail hikes?
At some point the blame goes to the Board. For NOT forming a search committee and interviewing the best and brightest to replace Sr. But instead, it's the Redneck Royalty thing; sacrificing the Institution in favor of 'the family'. Now they pay the piper, with a very damaged brand.

Which is why women will push back on any attempt to develop a male contraceptive which takes that power away from them.
Franklin Graham was a wild teenager and young adult, but with mentoring from several of his fathers associates in ministry, he came around and is now a very effective witness. He focuses more on rescue missions than mass evangelism as did his father, but is an inspiring preacher and prayer leader in his own right.
He described his process in an autobiography, well worth reading. While his father was a great and yet personally humble man, Billy Graham was largely absent from his childrens lives as they were growing up (due to his extensive evangelical touring across the U.S. and worldwide). Hence, some hurt and rebellion.
I admire the way Franklin did not try to cash in on the heights of his fathers fame, but did seem to absorb the humble approach. He worked his way up in the Billy Graham charities for a long time, learning the ropes, until he got his head and heart straightened around. He has now for many years spearheaded the estimable Samaritans Purse organization, which shows up around the world at floods, famine, hurricanes and even the recent covid-19 panic in New York City to deliver disaster relief food, shelter, and medical care and suppliesin the name of Christ.
How could they have not heard the rumors everyone else did and not ask tough questions?
This is what happens to any business that trusts their president without question and has no oversight.
The board is either incompetent, blind, or complicate.
In this case it's high profile individuals in Christian leadership positions which will always be used to attack the Christian faith when exposed. In this instance a Christian University with many satellite extensions and investments would certainly affect a great fallout.
Though this couple might have believed covering this up would protect the University etc. It likely did put them in a position for extortion by those who participated and were aware of this infidelity...and at best would only give them time if they agreed to pay....and extortionists always increase what they want over time as well as their threats to disclose what they know.
At any rate there really isn't a full recovery for The Fawell's at the University or it's affiliations. Forgiveness certainly, but sin will always play out it's consequences one way or another. For those in high offices of responsibility the ripple affect will continue in the destruction it sought though not as destructive had they continued to cover this.
God still takes us through what we face though we never come out of it unscathed... Neither will the Falwells.
It goes back to Chaucer:
"For she was wild and young, and he was old, And deemed himself as like to be a
{you know, the thing}"
He should've kicked her to the curb, so she could be an example for other unfaithful women -- let her see if the pool- boy's tool makes up for her status as Falwell's wife and the income.
But in today's society, she'd probably get to cash out with half his wealth, FOR having cheated on him.
I have used “cuck” many times.
Oh, I'm sure his wife was ...very generous.
Sounds like his wife already spent plenty of time on her knees.

Likely the board had no alternative but to continue trusting without actual evidence....and obviously if Falwell was questioned he continued to cover, I believe for 'fear' of what he defiantly knew would be the fallout on is family, his position and the University and it's affiliates.....as well as over time the election.
The idea that extortion was also in play only added to the affair and the desperation to conceal this from all that we see now happening
Time was the ONLY thing that could be obtained before this was to explode.
Yeah, Potiphar’s wife was like, totes innocent, too.
The same sort of undermining is happening to families involved with Catholic universities, Methodist universities, Episcopalian schools, and on and on. Welcome to the club.

At any rate every Christian is made aware before they fall that this is not the way to go. And the enemy always attacks at our weak moments...or when we are least guarded. In every situation of this nature one or the other makes the moves....you either stop the advances or entertain the advances...there is no in-between.
In my work I was often faced with men's advances...you take it down immediately and professionally. And get on with the business at hand...(They get it!)
I truly dislike the inheritance factor that many institutions seem to be afflicted with. The sons always disappoint. The kids always in dads shadow, and having grown up in a fishbowl is not good for leaders. They have no experience with being anything but an appendage of their patents fame. Not healthy. For anybody.
No-fault divorce is one of the most evil secular inventions ever to hit this country. It incentivizes exploitation by the partner who cares less.
