Philadelphia public school teacher worries about 'conservative' parents listening in on virtual classes

A Philadelphia public school teacher is curious about how educators will cope with “conservative parents" listening in on virtual classes, according to a thread captured on Twitter. According to a report by the Daily Wire, Matthew Kay, who teaches English at the Science Leadership Academy said on the social media platform that he is concerned about the “damage” that “helicopter parents” might cause if they overhear lessons on topics such as gender and sexuality.

“So, this fall, virtual class discussion will have many potential spectators — parents, siblings, etc. — in the same room. We’ll never be quite sure who is overhearing the discourse. What does this do for our equity/inclusion work?” Kay tweeted. “How much have students depended on the (somewhat) secure barriers of our physical classrooms to encourage vulnerability? How many of us have installed some version of ‘what happens here stays here’ to help this?” While Kay acknowledged that "damage can come from the left too," he noted that "conservative parents" are his chief concern when teachers are engaging “in the messy work of destabilizing a kid’s racism or homophobia or transphobia.”

“While conversations about race are in my wheelhouse, and remain a concern in this no-walls environment — I am most intrigued by the damage that ‘helicopter/snowplow’ parents can do in the host conversations about gender/sexuality," he tweeted. "And while ‘conservative’ parents are my chief concern — I know that the damage can come from the left too. If we are engaged in the messy work of destabilizing a kid’s racism or homophobia or transphobia — how much do we want their classmates’ parents piling on?” Since the thread, Kay's account has since been switched to private. He did not immediately return FOX News' request for comment.

Tweet at link. So educators indoctrinators have a problem with openness and transparency. How many homeowners worry about being able to pay their increasingly outrageous school property taxes? Perhaps a school tax revolt is in order? BTW, how many teachers are among the ANQUEEFAS who've got arrested so far? Enough said. Never mind the NRA, I really hope there's a state AG who will have the 'nads to go after and seek to dissolve the NEA.

remember when teachers didn’t view parents as enemies?

remember when teachers actually taught facts rather than indoctrinating kids to their views?

remember when they still hired real heterosexual men as principals and teachers and would kick your butt for not being respectful to adults?

I also remember most of my teachers were liberal leaning, BUT they encouraged us young skulls full of mush to keep up with current events, read about them from different sources, engage in healthy debate on the issues and above all to THINK FOR OURSELVES.

Boy, no kidding. This is an attitude that is prevalent in all things Leftist.

It is because they know there is no popular mandate or enthusiasm for what they want to to, so they are compelled to hide their real intentions when they can.

Exactly. Plus how many conservative parents are actually living in Philly? I’m betting zero within city limits.

“...we are engaged in the messy work of destabilizing a kid’s racism or homophobia or transphobia...”

“Destabilizing”” = anti-white, pro-faggot indoctrination. And anti-God, anti-male, anti-capitalist, pro-feminist, pro-socialist.

Pubic school teachers have been an enemy within for many decades.

There is something very wrong when teachers don’t want parents to know what they are telling students.

It will be good for parents to discover some of the nonsense being poured into their minds.

I realize I’m Old School. But I long for the days when an English teacher taught English and kept her politics to herself. And didn’t try to indoctrinate her students via brainwashing into a leftist worldview.

Yes. I said “herself”. Because in my day, the only men teachers were in Math, Science, and Phys Ed. All other subjects were the women’s domain. But I have to realize that those were also the quaint old days of two genders and 3 Rs.

Come the Revolution, there will be a long line at the chopping block.

How much have students depended on the (somewhat) secure barriers of our physical classrooms to encourage vulnerability?

That statement is syntactically flawed and/or makes no sense.

Matthew Kay…teaches English at the Science Leadership Academy

What does “equity/inclusion” have to do with English or “Science Leadership”?

If you worry about who is listening maybe it shouldn’t be coming up in your class room or come out of your mouth.

I was always under the impression that if you knew a teacher’s politics, then that teacher had failed. Yeah. I am also old school.

They even tell the kids to hide what they talk about from their parents. I taught my kids that if an adult wanted them to hide something from me, to tell me immediately because they may be in danger. Normal adults acting like they should act with a kid will demand no secrets.

"I also remember most of my teachers were liberal leaning"

I, too, but that was when liberals believed in free speech, law and order, lifetime marriage between a man and a woman, boy and girl sports, factual news, and military strength. Liberals now believe in none of these. Even then, I had to un-learn much of what I was indoctrinate into in school. I had to unlearn love of the UN, the "Ugly American", the sustainability of Social Security, and more.

Fortunately, it was easy then. I unlearned most of this the day I got my first real paycheck from my first real job. I saw how much the government took, for so little action, and instantly became conservative. Unfortunately, many of today's graduates never even get their first real paycheck. Their government handouts come with NO deductions listed, even though the government bureaucracies still keep most of the tax dollars that support the handouts. At least the private sector jobs still list the deductions.

Now teachers are afraid that parents will see what they are teaching. That's at least a start.
