Enthusiasm and passion have been a hallmark of political action over all of history. Stating something strongly and with conviction gets attention and almost forces people to listen. But the last three years have seen political passion turn into an explosion of hatred and anger like never before. Why is this?
Psychologists say that anger arises when we have an unmet demand. Some angry reactions are reasonable, such as objecting to bad service at an expensive restaurant, or protesting against an injustice, but others are irrational, such as shooting a gun at someone who just cut you off in traffic.
We use emotions such as anger to help us survive in difficult situations. Scientists have found that all emotions cause neuro-chemical changes in the brain and hate and anger have a larger impact.
Jean Kim, M.D., a psychiatrist and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University, writes, “Anger overrides all other moral and rational brakes in the brain because it originates from our primordial, original limbic system: the brain center of our most automatic emotions like fear and desire…. While anger feels good in the moment, it is in fact deeply illogical and destructive; it overrides all other moral and rational brakes in the brain.”
Edie Weinstein, MSW, LSW writes, “The neurotransmitter chemicals known as catecholamines are released causing a blast of kinetic energy that can last a few minutes. In a counterintuitive way, feeling bad sometimes feels good. Like any addiction, anger can induce discharge of dopamine epinephrine and norepinephrine. The adrenalin rush contributes to a sense of strength and invulnerability… it creates a sense of aliveness.”

First; is “shooting a gun AT somebody” different than attempting to shoot somebody?
Second; isn’t shooting someone for cutting you off in traffic in a Democrat ran city considered justifiable homicide when committed on Trump supporters.
Third; don’t Democrats always blamed the gun for shooting deaths as though they have a mind of their own? Therefore a gun owner can not be considered responsible for a gun pointing itself towards a driver and discharging a round.

They had tons of hatred toward Reagan and both Bushes. The difference now, is they finally let the lunatic far-left control their party. We had riots during the Obama years, but the hatred of police was not manifesting like now in elected leaders and local and state policies. Sometimes I wonder if there are forces at work that are not always in alignment. The riots will not help the Democrats, but they will help usher in the end of the USA as we know it.
So sorry, that’s very sad about your sister. My husband and his brother are at odds as well. They had a great relationship and were in contact every day. But his brother thinks we are too dumb to know better and feels we have been brainwashed by Fox News. He was relentless in trying to get us to see the light, so my husband stopped responding, and that was the end.

Yep. It’s a chronic, no-cure mental disease where up is down, hot is cold, good is bad, red is green etc. etc. It rots out the brain’s ability to think rationally. Some say that it is the pure demonic possession of the godless. Whatever it is, it destroys everything it touches....EVERYTHING. It is the BORG of this century.
The self-loathing and hatred is amazing to witness.
They will literally self-mutilate themselves...physically, mentally and spiritually.
We have a female sibling in our family that is so bad, she was written out of the parents’ will 2 years before they passed because of her diatribe against them for not giving her everything. She has had several court injunctions against her from even being present on the other siblings properties for any reason. There are constant death threats and threatening to burn down their houses. She has poisoned their pets, vandalized their vehicles, graffitied their homes, fired shots thru their windows, etc. Yes, she’s been arrested several times, and they just turn her back out on the streets. The court injunctions slowed most of it down, but the threat of armed self-defense finally sunk in to that brain-dead skull of hers...sorta.
You example is a bit over the top.....I have 2 liberal daughters who treat me very well and we NEVER discuss politics.

Leftism is a mental disorder that develops in a series of phases. It starts with an injury to ego followed by vanity as a protective response. Vanity soon leads to feelings of envy, which in time matures into hate, verbal and physical abuse, vandalism, theft, riots, murder, war, and voting Democrat.
Vanity, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, lust, gluttony and drug abuse: leftism can be described as the manifestation of all 7 deadly sins simultaneously.
One’s beliefs affect one’s standard of evaluation, which affects one’s value judgments. An evaluation which leads to a value judgment that something is bad also leads to an emotion such as hatred, anger,or fear. If someone has a particular irrational belief that is an obsession, it can lead to a constant and continuous inappropriate emotion.
It is inevitable, no matter the time frame, that those who reason will triumph over those who emote. History is full of examples of this.
