Brookline Deli Owner Says He’s Getting Threats From Customers Who Won’t Wear Face Masks

BROOKLINE (CBS) – The owner of a Brookline deli said he’s getting threats from customers who are refusing to wear face masks in his restaurant.

Steven Peljovich, the owner of Michael’s Deli, said a small group of customers is making life hard by not respecting the rules and lashing out if they are asked to put on a mask or wait outside for their orders.

“It’s really hard when you are trying to run a business and you need all the revenue you can get, to try to accommodate people like that as politely as you can when they don’t even want to talk to you about it,” Peljovich said. “When you ask them to wear masks and they tell me I can go screw. That is not what they say, but it is what they mean – the language they use I can’t tell you. Or they threaten to never come back.”

Peljovich said customers have even thrown food at him. He’s asking everyone to be considerate and understanding during the coronavirus pandemic.

Wait, I thought the reason for wearing a mask was not to prevent the wearer from others but to prevent an unknowingly infected person from spreading the virus. You mean the Fearpers who condemned me for questioning the altruism of mask wearers were wrong after all?

its comes from bulgaria designed by a costume designer. very comfortable. You can make it yourself if you can sew a zipper

She also has a hood that is similar in design to the new thing you see on Drudge right now for traveling...

Tell that to the medical professionals. Tell them you are an expert and they dont need to complain anymore about not having enough PPE equipment because they dont need it to protect themselves.

So I was right all along. All those people with fear in their eyes inside the store, who then littered the parking lot outside with their dirty used masks, worn gloves, and messy juice boxes really don’t give two shits about anyone else. Thanks!

Absolutely. There’s nothing conservative about telling someone you’re free to do as you please in HIS place of business.

Bottom line, the deli is private property. The deli owner makes the rules. Even an alleged conservative should respect property rights and either mask up or go somewhere else.

Absolutely. I don't like wearing the masks, but if you go to some business that asks you to wear one, then show some courtesy and respect.

Brookline is the home of Doctorjonathangruberofmit and probably the most left-wing, suffocatingly politically correct enclave in Massachusetts, but Micheal’s Deli is a gem.

It's not the deli owner making the rules. It's the state making the rules based upon dubious public health policy. If you're looking for the property rights violation in all this, it's not the customer who who refuses to comply, but the government that demands the compliance. So just mask up "conservative", after all, it's been ordered by your governor outside of the legislative process, all to protect you from yourself.

I dont see a promise from you to pay my medical bills. Still waiting.

Before you make that promise and guarantee...I will remind you I have thalassemia, high blood pressure, 15 pounds overweight, vasodepressor syncope, possible Von Willebrand Factor issue, low LDH, and sleep apnea and a 1 degree relative that died from lung cancer and a 1 degree relative who died from a cytokine storm

My deductible part that hasnt been met this year is over $6000. Then I think I am responsible for 50% until it reaches a certain point.

So are you will to cover that cost?

Can you GUARANTEE Covid will not be a problem for me.

If you aren’t willing to guarantee my safety ...

I have news for you: YOU can’t even guarantee YOUR OWN safety. It’s called the perils of human existence.

More mask theater.

That may be true.

But this thread is a case study in a very odd development brought about via COVID19...the unmasking (no pun intended) of liberal tendencies amongst alleged conservatives.

I totally get the skepticism around the medicinal value of many masks, the annoyance at state-sanctioned scareporn like the Fauci show, the lies of the WHO, public officials chastising lockdown protesters in Michigan but championing mayhem in Minneapolis.

I also get that the left has a vested interest in fanning the COVID19 flames, in destroying the economy, and keeping us all in lockdown so write-in balloting can usher in the Biden presidency.

But it is astounding, to read and see posts from allegedly freedom-loving people who champion the rule of law and private property and bemoan rioters who destroy property etc, who basically say that it is their God-given right to trample the requirements of business owners and not mask-up while in their store. It's even worse when these alleged conservatives take it upon themselves to become antimask evangelists and decide to use private property as a place for their soapbox.

If you don't like the weather, move. If you don't want to wear a mask in a deli and the owner requires a mask, then DON'T GO TO THAT DELI. Otherwise, please join your philosophical cousins in the mob that tell cake makers who they can and can't serve.

I’m also getting sick and tired of this mask bullshit here in MA.
To some it is absolute virtue signalling...like a cult.
To me i am sick and tired of this uselessness..

You should self quarantine. Stay locked up. Don’t go out. You have too many co-morbidities. The ONUS is on you to stay protected NOT THE REST OF SOCIETY!!!

The easiest solution is not to shop there - which is what I do with mask requiring places.

What the hell do your medical bills that have to do with anything? That you want to wear a mask, or a hazmat suit, matters not to me. I’ll hand it to you, in fact, for your honesty. You don’t care about stopping the spread except to yourself. The fact is I was attacked for suggesting that same selfish reason was the motivation for mask wearing when the behaviors I described, including leaving contaminated articles everywhere, clearly demonstrated the obvious. I was assured that it was all done out of concern for humanity, because “we’re all in this together.”
