Serious question — and I’m not trying to be a rabble-rouser. If a city like NYC disbands the police, or defunds the police, or whatnot, why WOULDN’T I decide to rob a bank? If there is no law enforcement, there are no laws. So why wouldn’t theft and violence and bad behavior be widespread. Lord of the Flies type stuff.
In other areas, sure, an armed society is a polite society and I think good folks in Texas or Arizona would keep a lid on bad behavior. But we’re talking about NYC. It’s not a polite place.

There’s a moving truck disturbing the peace and quiet almost every day. It will probably get worse now.
However,since 1964 the State of Ohio has been carried by every winning candidate.Osama Obama carried it...twice...but Trump carried it by about a 10 point margin.Ohio can surely be called *the* bell-weather state.
So how defunding the police will play in Ohio can be called a pivotal question in November.My guess is that it won't play well.
A lot of conservatives act as if a large police presence is a good thing. I don’t see anything “conservative” about that at all. The defining characteristic of a free, law-abiding society isn’t a major police presence -- it’s an armed citizenry.

I think he’s moving some funding away from the NYPD, not completely eliminating funding for the NYPD.
It’s a terrible idea with terrible consequences. But I don’t think it’s like what Minneapolis is contemplating.

My take: de Blasio (and the rest of them) are just paying lip service to the mob. Actual defunding will be minor, and cosmetic. The heavy-hitters* behind the scenes will see to that.
