Chief Justice Roberts Sides with Liberals – Refuses California Church Right to Assemble During Pandemic
Gateway Pundit ^ | 05/30/2020 | Jim Hoft

Chief Justice Roberts joined the the liberal bloc of the Supreme Court in deciding Governor Newsom has the right to deny churchgoers the right to assemble during this pandemic.

Once again, Roberts’ logic is muddled as he this time sided with the far left against the First Amendment of the United States.

The Hill reported:

"The Supreme Court issued a rare late-night ruling on Friday against a California church challenging their state’s stay-at-home order.

In a 5-4 vote, Chief Justice John Roberts broke from other conservative justices to rule in favor of the state. The case was brought by the South Bay United Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista, Calif., which said Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) stay-at-home order ignored religious freedoms.

Roberts noted in an opinion concurring in the unsigned ruling that the restrictions in place are applied to non-religious gatherings and therefore don’t pose a threat to religious liberties.

“Although California’s guidelines place restrictions on places of worship, those restrictions appear consistent with the free exercise clause of the First Amendment,” Roberts wrote.

“…Similar or more severe restrictions apply to comparable secular gatherings, including lectures, concerts, movie showings, spectator sports, and theatrical performances, where large groups of people gather in close proximity for extended periods of time,” he wrote."

Welp, there it is.

A country founded on religious freedom now claims it’s ok to kill it on a whim?

That liquor stores have more rights?

Time for Mr. Prissy Roberts and his buddies to go.

Yo, John. Boobala. Just for grins, cite the text of The First Amendment for us.

The next time someone hopes we get a national reciprocity case in front of SCOTUS to help blue states with awful concealed carry laws, I’ll point to this terrible ruling as a reason why that needs to remain a state issue...at least until we get two normal justices to replace RBG or one of her other dope bretheren. Roberts cannot be considered a “solid” vote in anything. He’s the new Kennedy.

There is no way to put in words how I feel to the fact that 5 people on the supreme court do not understand Freedom. Those 5 should be forcibly removed and hanged for treason.....after a trial of course.

That liquor stores have more rights?

Roberts is being blackmailed by the forces opposed to the Constitution because he is not himself clean of breaking the law when he adopted his children in violation of the law. When we take back the House that violation should be grounds for his impeachment. He lied in his confirmation hearings.

Time for MASSIVE DISOBEDIENCE!!!

Roberts is "owned" by somebody, because he is not this stupid.

“Although California’s guidelines place restrictions on places of worship, those restrictions appear consistent with the free exercise clause of the First Amendment,” Roberts wrote.

Don’t know precisely who owns him, but Roberts is bought and sold to somebody. This ruling will turn out to be very, very costly to our civil rights in general, IMHO.

“Chief Justice John Roberts broke from other conservative justices to rule in favor of the state.”

He has been a turncoat for years. Just like the Bush who nominated him.

Even more disgusting, they issued this ruling while thousands of thugs were out non-peaceably assembling & rioting.

I’ll never forget, or forgive, how Roberts fumbled (on purpose) the swearing in of Obama...and then had to do it over in private. Why was the privacy needed?

“Roberts noted in an opinion concurring in the unsigned ruling that the restrictions in place are applied to non-religious gatherings and therefore don’t pose a threat to religious liberties.”

In other words, since there are prohibitions against riots, prohibitions against church meetings are okay.
