I'm very sad to say that The Shrew passed away yesterday. I know there are some oldtimers here that would want to know and possibly share condolences and stories. He was one of the best.

I guess it would depend on someone at least knowing the poster posts on FR and also that that person has passed away and is moved enough to inform us here. I imagine some of us have passed away without that happening since this group of us skews to the elderly side. Also a number of us have met in real life so there is that as well. Most of the time a spouse seems to be the one to let us know. Beyond a thread like this one can be memorialized on the Memorial Wall which is linked on the main front page of this website at the bottom. A perusal of which shows how many good people have been on this website.

One of my fav times with The Shrew-a group of us went to dinner together at a Thai restaurant in D.C. The Shrew offered to choose the menu items. When the food arrived, he expertly described each dish, from seasonings to preparation to presentation. It was an amazing epicurean experience among friends.
The world was definitely a better place when The Shrew was with us. RIP, FRiend.

Oh no!
Sorry to hear this. I remember the time we did a Dallas event and he put on a great dinner for us all.
Hope you are doing well, MAF.

Ive actually left instructions on where to post stuff because I have been involved with a lot of forums and groups.
There is probably a small business in online obituaries coming up. The local paper isnt going to cut it anymore.

RIP to a great old timer.

Hey sauropod, good here. I was trying to remember who all came to that dinner. I think there were 12 of us? Fun times.

Tim Ziegler (The Shrew) was a director of the Free Republic Network in the early 2000's during FR's most effective period of political activism. For several years he did online interviews for Radio Free Republic at CPAC. Tim, myself, Nick Danger, and Diotima worked together in 2004 to develop
WinterSoldier.com and
SwiftVets.com. In 2008, Tim and I co-authored
To Set The Record Straight: How Swift Boat Veterans, POWs and the New Media Defeated John Kerry, which told the inside story of the anti-Kerry veterans movement during the 2004 presidential campaign.
Tim had significant health issues in recent years, including infections that cost him his lower legs. Tim was characteristically undaunted by this, and quickly mastered the use of his new prosthetic appendages. He was courageous, kind, intelligent, dedicated, and honest. He was a Christian believer. He deeply loved his family and his country. It was a great honor to be his friend.

Tim was probably the only person on the planet with the following three lines on his resume:
o Marine Tank Platoon Commander
o Gourmet Chef and Spice Expert
o Director, Alan Keyes for President campaign
