Tanks came in handy on Iwo Jima.

We don’t. But are you willing to bet the country that the Chi-coms won’t? Are you willing to bet that they don’t have a stockpile of neutron weapons?

I’m not.

Why should teens today get blamed for hippies/flower children cowardice of the 60s? Projection on the younger generations is nothing but boomer guilt.

Right now, manned vehicles like the V-22 aren’t obsolete quite yet - after all, they keep working when radio control links are jammed, something drones have a problem with. And surface to ground missile against vehicles was thought to be a forgone conclusion until real world active protection systems demonstrated that the ground vehicles weren’t quite ready to roll over and die for the missiles.

They’re still playing with a belly gun for the MV-22 to go along with the .50BMG GAU-21 on the back deck: https://news.usni.org/2019/02/21/tweaks-upgrades-mv-22b-osprey-poised-add-might-marines

Remember, this is just for the Marines. Not the Army.

Marines are the smallest branch and are usually the rapid deployment fast in and out units. Not all their missions ever even call for armored mobile artillery.

The smallest branch has pilots, are on ships and on land. They know their deployments and missions the best, and when’s the last time Marines did missions with tanks?

********

Not all missions but some do.

So, sure, lets completely castrate the force and remove *all* ability to adjust to the mission.

Blinding hot rage doesn’t even begin to express feelz for this piece of degenerate filth of a Commandant.

This is the same piece of idiot filth that’s removing the Assaultman MOS from the Corps because “didn’t need it much last war” at exactly the same time the US military is investing crap tons of money into trying to figure out how to deal with the underground fortifications the Chinese like to use and build.

So yeah. Lets just get rid of a demolitions assault element already available in each rifle company and just let the very limited resource of engineers handle all that.

This idiot couldn’t be working at the behest and best interests of a foreign enemy any plainer or clearer if he wore that enemy’s uniform to work every day.

Semper Mudder Frackin’ Fi.

If you use a neutron you are going to get hit back with a thermonuclear strike.

I suuppose it’s probably a rash jusgment then, to say they will get out of it entirely.

Otherwise then its coordinating with army if they need tanks.

If you are correct and it’s a lower percentage of missions, that is probably not the thing breaking their budgets.

In WW II in the Pacific, the marines invaded and the Army occupied.

Perhaps what is needed is a tank company rather than a battalion.

comes to mind.

Agreed. Hacksaw Ridge was a terrific and horrific movie. I lived in Lynchburg, VA for a while. Desmond Doss was a hero.

Hacksaw was one of many very bloody battles to take southern Okinawa.
The 96th and 77th ID's took a pounding. The 1st Marines, moving in
parallel actually had an easier time of it for once. The HBO mini-series
'The Pacific' gives a pretty good representation of just how bad it was on
Okinawa for the Marines and it was worse in some instances for the Army.
