Eight elected officials announce party switch, join Mississippi Republican Party

The Mississippi Republican Party is welcoming some new members and all of them were elected public offices as Democrats or Independents in this most recent election cycle.

The Mississippi Republican Party Chairman says he doesn’t expect this will be the last time they are welcoming new members to the GOP.

“We have had a relentless focus on switching conservative Democrats over to the Republican party," explained MSGOP Chairman Lucien Smith. "They recognize increasingly that there is only one party that represents the conservative values of our state and that is the Republican party.”

All eight of the latest party switchers were from Smith and Covington Counties and one District Attorney whose district covers those areas. But the conservation didn’t take long to expand to the national party ties.

“We are in a scenario in this country where you can choose to be a member of the party led by Donald J. Trump or you can choose to be a member of the socialist Democratic party led by Bernie Sanders,” noted Governor Tate Reeves.

I'd have to know their stances on issues.

Their record would be important.

Some politicians like to switch to the favored party, but don't seem to
have the same ideals as the leader.

If they are decent folk, no problem.

If not, primary them.

How in the sam hell does any sane person stay in the demoncRats party
these days?

The destruction of the Democratic party by making it embrace it’s true colors (SOCIALISM) could flood the GOP with RINOs.

Most southern democrats don’t have the same beliefs as the national level democrats. We still have some that are truly Blue dog Democrats (not many left but some). They foolishly hold onto the notion that the democrats are the party of average working families. We know it’s BS but sometimes it takes major issues (like communists, LGBTTQQIAAP, radical taxation, outright hatred of working people) to get them to see the light. JMHO

It is a trick; they are either trying to infiltrate the Republican Party, or just making sure they get re-elected with their NOT CONSERVATIVE views in the next election with an R after their name.

Same thing happened here in California, just remember AHHNOLD ran as a Republican, legislated like a GREENIE DEMONRAT.

You have the same problem in Alabama....which was going on in the 1990s. Sessions and Shelby both were Democrats at some point. I think half of the Alabama House members were democrats at some point.

I have mixed thoughts on that, but it does seem reasoned on some level.

I look at the party as a whole, and I couldn’t have anything to do with it.

The fact that several hardcore black Marxist extremists got elected to some political offices in Mississippi (Jackson, Miss., the Marxist Chokwe Lumumba family plus one other black Marxist recently), might be giving the Democrats second thoughts about being leftists.

I’m from Mississippi and there are some strange holdover politics there, Alabama is the same way. I has to do with the civil war and reconstruction. For the longest time everyone was a democrat, few would vote for someone in the party of Lincoln. After Carter screwed the country up so badly voters saw how it took Reagan to fix it and started voting republican on a national level, but local elections remained all democrat. It has long been almost impossible to get elected to any local office if you’re not a democrat. For the most part it has remained that way until recently. Since the democrats have gone so far left with Obama, Pelosi, and the gang people are waking up and saying it just doesn’t make sense for us to be associated with these nutcases. Sanders is the straw that appears to be breaking the camel’s back, even lifelong southern democrats can’t reconcile being in the same party as a communist.
