Michael Bloomberg is channeling some of his $61.8 billion net worth into a new campaign strategy: memes.
The Democratic 2020 hopeful unleashed a flood of posts onto Instagram Wednesday night, partnering with some of the most-followed accounts for a series of bizarre memes.
The posts follow a similar theme, all pretending to be depicting direct messages from Bloomberg himself to the individual accounts. Most of the posts find him taking the persona of an out-of-touch old guy, trying to reach out to a younger audience in a tongue-in-cheek fashion and go viral.
In one, posted by @FkJerry to its 15 million followers, Bloombergs fake DM says his granddaughter showed him the account, and he wants to post a meme that makes him look like the cool candidate.
When Bloomberg offers a photo of himself wearing deeply uncool duds, Jerry responds by saying it will cost like a billion dollars.
In a post on Tank Sinatras account, which has 2.3 million followers, the fake Bloomberg says he made his own meme then reveals an edited Bernie Sanders ad with the caption: I am once again asking for you to make me look cool.
An even stranger post on the account @sonny5ideup mentions sick Tech Deck tricks referring to the finger-sized skateboards popular in the early 2000s.
Nearly every posted is captioned with some variation on, yes, this post really was sponsored by @mikebloomberg.

Mini-Mike isn’t cool.
He’s like Hillary, another elitist who doesn’t really care for or about ordinary people. How many Bloomberg rallies with cheering crowds do you see?
About as many Hillary rallies ... none
Behind-the-scenes tricks can only go so far before the public realizes they’re being played ... as Hillary found out
I think they are pretty good. Offbeat. We’ll see how they work. They make him into a person.
The only person that could make mini-Mike look even remotely cool is crazy uncle Joe Biden. Heck, next to him even I look pretty hip. Wait, kids still say hip, right? ;-)
Those memes came from 4channers having a laugh at Mini Mike the other day.
"Every day I'd say, 'what did you do.' And she'd say 'well, I played Scrabble today.' And I said, 'who'd you play with.' 'The housekeeper.' 'And did you win.' 'Yes, of course.' And I said, 'mother, the housekeeper works for us. They're throwing the game to you.' 'That's an outrage,' and she finished by saying, 'if you learn to play Scrabble you'd learn how to spell.' I said, 'mother, at my age I'm never going to learn how to spell.'"
Maybe Bloomberg is trying to relate to ordinary people by claiming that he doesn't know how to spell. That would seem consistent with the contempt Bloomberg clearly has for everyday Americans. The elitist candidate probably thinks, "Americans are stupid, so I'll relate to them by pretending to be stupid too." And what better way to relate to everyday Americans than by telling a story that involves one of his housekeepers?
Mikey, don’t spend all yer money in one place.
But, if you must, buying the Dem nomination is a good place to start.
Does Bloomberg still fly to his home in Bermuda every weekend? That is about as elitist as possible.
Not by any stretch of the imagination.
only reaction bloomberg will get from his $150 instagram meme campaign is “Loser” & “he's Old”
The Left can’t meme.
He thinks he’s being a leftist Trump.
Fail
