The Democratic-led Virginia House of Delegates has passed legislation that seeks to award the states electoral votes to the presidential candidate that wins the national popular vote in an election.
The measure, also known as House Bill 177, passed the legislative chamber in a 51-46 vote on Tuesday after clearing the bodys Privileges and Elections Committee in a vote last week.
If the legislation is passed by the Senate, where Democrats also hold control, and signed into law by the governor, Virginia would subsequently be entered into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Under the compact, Virginia agrees to award its electoral votes to the presidential ticket that receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, a bill summary states. The compact goes into effect when states cumulatively possessing a majority of the electoral votes have joined the compact.

Even if NPV goes into effect in time -- and it's obvious that its advocates will do all they can to prevent that, because 2020 is going to the worst can of whupass most of them have ever seen -- President Trump will be reelected by a nice margin, which under NPV would require he receive the votes, and Demagogic Party stooges everywhere will Tweet their suicide notes.
States can award their EV to whomever they want. Its constitutional.
In true Democrat tradition they will change the rule.
Means that the cities will rule and nuts to the rest of the state, Bad!!
Or has Northam's madness emboldened the Legislature to test new idiocy to inflame Conservatives?
That will never happen. These people are pathetic.
Hopefully enough rural voters in Virginia will turn out to take the state back from these commies. Trump voters are energized like never before.
I will crawl across a mile of broken glass to vote for Trump and vote out every democrat.
When?
In our Republic a Presidential Election is actually 50 separate Elections.
We are the United States of America, not the Soviet Union with a Central Government controlling Member States.
Disenfranchising the Voters of VA should be treated as a Capital Offense.
What a joke. It’s becoming a very liberal state.
Fred Thompson was one of the original drivers of this. I respected the man, once.
Imho, the great state of VA needs a revolution.
Hopefully peaceful.

“I changed my mind and believe Trump will win the popular vote now.”
Not when the democrat gets 35,000,000 votes in California.
And no one seems to know how it happened.
Did Republican KNOW Virginia was targeted for take over? If they did, why didn't they issue an alert?
If they DIDN'T know, why didn't they know?
The Communist State of Virginia.
What did Jim Morrison say....
“I’ve got to get outta here
What a freaking shame.
Nice going, Socialist Demons.
Totally hosed a once proud state.
I believe the argument is that you are unconstitutionally disenfranchising your states voters if you ignore the states votes.
The key words: “Under the compact”. Compacts between States are unconstitutional unless approved by the Congress. Additionally, it would be unlikely to survive a court challenge as the intent is clearly to change the U.S. Constitution without using the Amendment process.
The Communist-led Virginia House of Delegates continues to pass unconstitutional legislation.
Is there any reason to believe that this do-nothing group will do anything for the people of Virginia?
They appear to be driven by hate of voters and the USA.
Point to Ponder: How does giving Virginia’s electoral votes to the candidate that came in third place in Virginia but first place nationally represent the will of Virginia voters?
