One suspect, identified as Marquise Tolbert, has 21 arrests, three felony convictions and 12 gross misdemeanor convictions, according to public records.
The second suspect, identified as William Tolliver, has 44 arrests, one felony conviction and 18 gross misdemeanor convictions, records show.
A woman in her 40s was killed in the shooting shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday near the McDonald's at 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. Seven others were hurt, including a 9-year-old boy. It was the second shooting in the heart of downtown Seattle's retail center in about 24 hours.
Witnesses said they heard gunfire and then saw two men running down into the transit tunnel. Police and medics quickly arrived at the scene, but the suspects got away.
All of the injured victims were rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where a 55-year-old female was critically injured and a 9-year-old boy was in serious condition. The woman was upgraded to serious condition Thursday morning, while the child has since improved to satisfactory condition.
An officer at the scene told KOMO News that the 9-year-old had been visiting the Pacific Science Center earlier with his family and then got caught in the crossfire as they made their way down 3rd Avenue.
A 21-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, a 35-year-old man, and a 49-year-old man were discharged from the hospital Wednesday night. A 32-year-old man remains in satisfactory condition at the hospital. Police have not released the identities of any of the victims.
Amazon, which has offices nearby and is the city's largest employer, said two of its workers who happened to be passing by were wounded, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
We are deeply troubled by last nights events in Seattle and our thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this tragedy," Amazon said in a
Police say a dispute in downtown Seattle erupted in gunfire, leaving seven innocent bystanders hurt and one person dead.
During a Wednesday night press conference, Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said there were "multiple" shooters involved, but she did not say if it was more then two people involved, which is what several witnesses told KOMO News.
Chief Best said a dispute between the suspects erupted in gunfire.
"This was not a random incident," she said, adding that officers arrived on the scene shortly after they received reports of gunfire.
The gunfire prompted those in the area to run and seek cover.
"We heard what sounded like a bunch of automatic weapon fire - just 30-40 shots, just 'Bam-bam-bam-bam-bam!' " said one witness who would only give his name as Win. "We saw people running up the sidewalk toward the McDonalds and hiding around the corner."
A witness saw two men walking from Westlake towards 3rd and Pine and arguing. The argument became violent when the men pulled out guns and started shooting. The victims who were shot appeared to be innocent bystanders who were caught in the crossfire, according to an eyewitness.
A man named Bill told KOMO News that he was in an office and heard gunfire and saw as many as 100 people running to take cover.
"It was sheer panic," he said. "I've never seen anything like it."
The incident snarled the evening rush hour for motorists and bus commuters as officers closed several streets during their investigation. All streets in the vicinity were reopened by about 5:15 a.m. Thursday.
The 3rd Avenue shootout occurred less than three hours after an officer-involved shooting in the Belltown neighborhood. In that incident, a 28-year-old man was shot by Seattle police. The suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries.
And about 24 hours earlier, a 55-year-old man was shot and critically wounded at the Westlake Center. The suspect in that shooting was dressed in all black and fled from the scene on foot after the shooting. Police have still not found the shooter in that case.
Seattle police are pleading for anyone who might have information on the 3rd Avenue shooting case to give them a call at (206) 233-5000. Or tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS and leave anonymous tips that could be paid a $1,000 reward. Or if you have any photo or video evidence, you can share it with SPD detectives at this link.
Obviously the need laws against shooting people instead.
That’s a unique perspective! I haven’t heard that one at our state legislature.
First guy is studying to be a Catholic priest .In the United States, priests must have a four-year university degree in philosophy plus an additional four to five years of graduate-level seminary formation in theology with a focus on Biblical research. A Master of Divinity is the most common degree.
2nd guy is started his own nonprofit that helps disadvantaged people train for employment.
Oh, wait. I looked at the wrong records. These two guys are unemployed thugs on welfare. Sorry.
They look German to me.
Aspiring rappers who were turning their lives around....caught in an unfortunate incident that required them to protect theyselfs...
Should be one strike and you are out. A lot of politicians, prosecutors and judges should be stretching ropes for this crap...all over the country.
Why werent they in prison?
In Seattle we have a lesbian mayor, a female police chief and a city council full of commies. All the ferals are allowed free range to poop in the street, riot and cause general chaos.
German East Africa.
When the anti-gun idiots sue the gun manufacturers for indirectly causing the shootings by nutjobs who buy their guns, and auto companies have been sued for accidents, then why not tell a judge to be careful about giving parole or plea deals to let criminals go if they are likely to commit violent crimes? Why not?
Judicial malpractice.
Not a word about race. Must be translucent. People know to be on the lookout for 2 men though so thats helpful!
No, they are obviously two NRA members and CCW holders.
Billy RAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hawks fans may be disappointed in the team but they’re stable minded folks. Hawks paraphernalia stuff are in stores year round and just about every car on the road has a Hawks sticker and some are huge enough to cover the back windows. I don’t ever remember any Hawks fan(s) attacking a visiting team fan after losing to them.
Especially in NYS where they’d be arrested, given an appearance ticket, and released immediately without bail.
That’s the new *justice reform* in action here.
And Cuomo is still idiot enough to think that people are leaving because of the weather.
Aw such nice cute fellas. They look so sweet.
bad hombres... shocked corrupt liberal media plastered their mugshots so fast.
the mcdonalds on 3rd ave is the epicenter for open-air drug dealing downtown and has been for DECADES... 3rd ave is where all the buses converge from the Seattle ghettos
the dyke mayor and her affirmative action hire police chief are worthless... and they are some of the ones trying hard to disarm us here in WA.
Why werent they in prison?
They shot a couple amazon employees. They’re guaranteed a long stretch now in state prison.
