President Donald Trump is hoping to win reelection on the economy, but the stats that he likes to tweet about such as the value of the stock market and the unemployment rate do not tell the real story. The truth is: The economy is badly broken for the vast majority of Americans across the vast majority of the country.
About half of Americans dont own stocks, and the share of national income going to workers rather than investors is actually near an all-time low. Meanwhile, almost half of all American workers earn an average of $10.22 per hour, or about $18,000 per year. President Trump hasnt pushed for an increase in the minimum wage, even though it hasnt increased in 10 years.
Millions of Americans, especially people of color, struggle to find a job. In Chicago, more than 45% percent of black men between the ages of 20 and 24 are jobless. This is what President Trump calls the greatest economy in the history of America. We couldnt disagree more.
It used to be that a high school diploma came with a ticket to the middle class. Thats no longer true because many good jobs have been lost to global trade and technology. But instead of focusing on creating good new jobs, and helping people get the skills that todays careers require, President Trump promises to bring the old jobs back. And he has failed, miserably.
We (Bloomberg and Duncan) worked closely together on these issues during the Obama administration, and we made some important progress. But President Trump is taking us in the wrong direction.

Well send them some money instead of spending it on an election.
Arne Duncan, the guy who was in charge of Chicago’s so called Education System for years before Obama made him Secretary of Education? That Arne Duncan????

Yes. At the bottom of the article, it says:
Arne Duncan is a managing partner at the Emerson Collective and was U.S. Secretary of Education from 2009 to 2015.
Keep spending bloomers.
And just how do they propose to raise the wages of low-skilled workers? Just give them money? The reason some wages are low are that many people don’t have many job skills. A low-wage job is supposed to be a starting point, not a lifetime career that can support a family. Earlier immigrants understood this. They worked several jobs, family members also worked, and they built their skills and got an education so they could earn more money.
Class Envy. An old old COMMUNIST trick to deceive the stupid.
Chicago/Crook County has been run by democrats longer than I have been alive, and I’m 65.
And they blame Trump?.....................................
BS.
If that were the case, it would have been trumpeted across the nation and shouted from the rooftops.
I don't remember hearing a peep about it.
Bloomberg is heavily advertising on Facebook. Hes being savaged in the comments section. Nobody is buying what hes selling.
RE: Class Envy. An old old COMMUNIST trick to deceive the stupid.
The puzzle is — why would one of the richest man in the world, over 10 times richer than the President, indulge in it?
Typical Democrat response whenever a Republican POTUS has a strong economy.
“Well, it ain’t trickling down to YOU fast enough!”
Really their only move I guess.
Not very educated. The U3 and U6 numbers are at historic lows, real pay is up per household.
I’ve been seeing ads from Buttplug recently touting basically the same idea. His line is “someone working FULL-TIME, earning MINIMUM WAGE, can’t afford a TWO-BEDROOM APARTMENT.
So first, I have to think that there can’t be many people working full-time who are only making minimum wage.
Second, minimum wage is for entry-level jobs. You shouldn’t be aiming at such a low-level job if you’re trying to live on your own.
Third, since the minimum wage is not intended to be a “living wage”, there is no situation where someone making so little should be trying to rent a two-bedroom apartment by themselves.
An arrogant pampered isolated rich liberal like Bloomberg wouldn’t have the slightest idea what working people were going through. No the foggiest clue.

“almost half of all American workers earn an average of $10.22 per hour, or about $18,000 per year”
What a curious phrase.
Why “almost”?
Which “almost”?
Why not an outright “half”?
Does “American workers” refer to Americans who are workers, or workers in America? if latter, does this include immigrants? illegal immigrants?
Averaging less than the bottom half will, indeed, produce a low number.
Skewing the bottom group to less than half will produce a lower number; “almost” allows further fudging.
He’s admitting that group, on average, makes 40% more than minimum wage.
The bottom of that group is making minimum wage, indicating the top is making at least $13.84/hr ... and likely much more.
There’s a whole lotta data missing from that concern-inducing propaganda.
Almost like someone said “gimme a phrase that looks like the median of a group is making $18,000” and the statistician came up with “bottom X% average $Y/hr which is ~$18,000/yr.” Easy to do; phrased right, is persuasive despite deceptive.
