Patrick Stewart returns to Star Trek and the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS streaming show, but the reason it exists at all is, unsurprisingly, political. The liberal actor told Variety this week that Picard is me responding to the world of Brexit and Trump. He also said that the United States (under Trump) and Britain (under Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson) are completely f****d.
Talking to Varietys Daniel Holloway, Stewart explained why his character is getting a revival:
Trump seemed to be responsible for a lot of old TV shows coming back. In 2018, the creator of the '80s/'90s sitcom Murphy Brown explained why that show returned: We definitely wouldn't have had the show if Trump hadnt won. She added, We didn't have a motivation do it. We didn't really have the meat or a story. And then when the election happened, I mean, if Hillary had won, we would just be dancing in the streets.
Stewart connected the United States, Britain, Brexit, Trump and Johnson into one political lament:
Im not sure which one of us is in the most trouble, he says of Britain and the United States. I think its actually the U.K. I think were fed, completely fed. He points to studies predicting decades-long economic damage inflicted by the countrys looming withdrawal from the European Union. Of the U.S., he says, There is a time limit to your fed state, which is four years away. He expresses hope that the United States that has given us the Trump administration can change...
But, the actor added, He will likely get reelected..
In November of 2019, Stewart told a French audience that hes embarrassed by Brexit and thinks its a disgrace.

Pretty funny. I remember when TNG first came out. I called it “Star Trek for women”.
And he’s hinting at my tag line...
Hi Alex;
I would love to rake How to kill a movie franchise for $100, please
Nor even at Redbox.
Get woke, go broke
So he is a globalist and doesn’t give a damn about the average working Joe and Jane. Got it, Picard. Thank you for the clarification.
More Won’t See TV.
Sigh.
Never cared for Star Trek 2 or whatever it was referred to. So I will not be watching this, and I hope many others do not as well.
Moron is listening to the same economic predictions that said if our President was elected, the stock market and economy would crash.
His new show will bomb. He should have left it at goodbye to all that when ST TNG went off the air in 1994.
He needs a photon torpedo up his backside...............
Star Trek is Marxist garbage.
He is not worried about Islamification?
Not much of an Englishman.
It’s a shame, I used to like Patrick Stewart. Couldn’t keep his stupid mouth shut. No way am I going to watch that new ST show now. Besides, quite honestly, the Star Trek franchise had jumped the shark a long time ago.
Screw him, not watching it now.
Stewart is an inbred Limey who hates our president. Eff him.
Until I read this, I would have watched the show....n ttcot now.
And the problem with Brexit is what, exactly?
He has obviously reassimilated with the Borg.
What? Is there going to race of violent irrational people screaming ceaseless unintellible chants at the primary antagonists?
Shut up Stewart!
How did Ricky Gervais put it?
Oh, yeah...
“Youre in no position to lecture the public about anything,” he declared. “You know nothing about the real world. ...you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”
I'm a woman and I hated it.
Picard was the worst captain ever. Every plot line was solved by talking things over--which does not work in real life. And the show was mostly leftist pipe dreams. Ugh. TNG was a stain on the Star Trek franchise.
