Yeah, I think your numbers are off, there’s no way my 10HP could burn a gallon in 15 minutes. It’ll run all day on 5 gal.

A diesel would run even longer...but weigh more.

Who said anything about a closed vehicle?

The Aztec was a car I refused to ride in or even be seen looking at.

Your 10 hp generator puts out only about 5kW. It would take more than a day to charge your EV, and several tanks of gas. Besides that, your “all day” rating is only at half power - check the owner’s manual. That means two days running to charge the EV.

The picture is of a closed vehicle. I didn’t say anything.

“The federal tax credit for Tesla buyers falls by 50% on Monday (July 1, 2019) and will be eliminated altogether at the start of 2020.”

That's something that's been WAY overdue, for a long, long time...

It’s oddly clunky and graceful at the same time, a way to appeal to former Hummer drivers who miss those, and the steampunk crowd (B2theFuture).

“500 miles. 14,000 lbs tow. 0-60 in <2.9 seconds”

Those 500 miles turns to 5 if towing 14,000 pounds or heavy footing 2.9 seconds.

Even Honda learned that a unibody ruck doesn’t work due to flexing.

Thanks for the video link.

Most people will buy it for the features, not the looks. It’s ugly to me.

I noticed in the video that the total cost of ownership is claimed to be less than a conventional truck.

Once people take test drives and the word gets out what it’s really like, then I think there will be a lot of people who want it.

“No manual door handles, same kind of fire prone batteries, death trap.”

I’m curious as to the emergency escape options, I doubt the doors require electronics from the inside.

As for fire, gas powered vehicles remain a MUCH larger risk for death by fire. Porsches in particular seem to immolate folks regularly.

How many total have died in Tesla fires again?

“50 miles otherwise, if carrying a load”

It’s a good thing that towing or a load doesn’t reduce range with an ICE vehicle... (rolls eyes)

The tax credit was by no means a Tesla-only thing either. Every car manufacturer gets the same incentive to ramp up electric car production.

Like it or not, electric cars have tangible advantages over ICE cars, and that disparity will only increase going forward.

Most are today, however, I have no idea if theirs are or not. But even so, there is always a manual escape option, usually located by the drivers seat on its left side on the floor.

I’ve finally seen a Tesla in the wild as it were, this happened late in the summer. Saw another one perhaps six weeks ago, pointed it out to my sister (she’s driving some kind of Ecoboost Ford and is mad that they were discontinued).

When I had to rent a car (I used a service analogous to AirBNB, uh, Turo it’s called) out here in The Boonies I noticed a Tesla was available, but the daily rental was more than the amount I paid for the compact IC engined car for the entire period I needed it. The Tesla owner was however willing to deliver it here, so I flirted with the idea. When it gets closer to the time I plan to buy a vehicle, I’ll probably rent the guy’s Tesla to try it out. :^)

Exactly. As Porsche now enters the market, and since Tesla has sold too many cars to see any theoretical sales benefit, T’s competitors will theoretically have an edge, but won’t really, because they’ll just sell for a higher price for as long as they can. If anything, the kickback suppresses sales over the long run, making the models sell in very low numbers. That is, until Tesla’s Model 3, which if memory serves has outsold all other EVs combined, all model years combined.

I think the problem with the manual release in that fatal fire was that the driver was knocked out and the emergency workers couldn’t get the door open from outside. Not sure what kept them from breaking a window.

It’s an amusing idea (towing a gasoline generator behind a Tesla) but in practice, it’s probably not an efficient use of one’s time or battery capacity. IOW, I wholeheartedly agree.

A lot of people do that, then they end up buying one.

I probably won’t buy one (price will continue to be too high for me throughout my twilight years) but am interested in an EV. Probably will be a used Nissan Leaf with the battery upgrade if needed (those are upgraded at the dealer).
