Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and a utility that provides gas to New York City and Long Island have been locked in a standoff since May, when New York regulators blocked the construction of a $1 billion natural gas pipeline that would have run from Pennsylvania to New Jersey and New York.
The utility, National Grid, says the pipeline is crucial to meeting the rising energy demand in the region and has imposed a moratorium, refusing to activate gas hookups for both new and returning customers.
On Tuesday, the fight took a sharp turn after Mr. Cuomo threatened to revoke National Grids license to operate in the southern part of New York.
Mr. Cuomo, in a letter, accused the utility of mishandling its gas supply system and recklessly disregarding its obligations as a public utility when it issued the moratorium.
The utilitys fundamental legal obligation was to plan and provide for future needs, the governor wrote. You failed by your own admission.
National Grid, which supplies gas to 1.8 million customers in New York City and on Long Island, said it would review Mr. Cuomos letter and respond accordingly.
We continue to work with all parties on these critical natural gas supply issues on behalf of all our customers in downstate New York, the utility said in a statement.
The moratorium has left some people in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island in flux. Developers have been unable to provide gas to new buildings, business owners cannot obtain requested upgrades and homeowners have had to fight to get suspended gas service restored.
At this point, a number of projects are in limbo because of uncertainty over the energy supply, said Kathryn S. Wylde, the president of the Partnership for New York City, an influential business group.

Years ago some insurance companies wanted to withdraw from NJ completely for auto insurance; the state forced them to stay by threatening to prevent them from selling ANY insurance.
Now we have the most expensive auto insurance in the country...
How stupid are New Yorkers? They keep reelecting this moron!
The way things are going, that idiot NY guv might try and sue NJ for hogging resources.
AND:
“Because of your threats and the radical nature of your followers, First Grid no longer feels safe providing our product and service to NY.”
Cuomo’s gonna see his polls tank if New Yorkers have to use electric heating in the winter. At 30 cents per KWh, it’s an arm and a leg.
Funny how liberals hate energy,... until they discover they cant live without it.
Idiots.
Underneath the floor of a windowless cell.
Because electricity just comes out of those little outlets in the walls....
More worried about electricity. Cuomo is shutting Indian Point Nuclear which also supplies some of northern New Jersey. Also have no confidence in “progressive” NJ Governor Murphy to keep NJ nuclear plants operational or constructing needed carbon powered generators.
Democrats are getting their Green New Deal carbon-free future. This is what they want.
Changing their minds in midstream isnt fair to anyone, particularly utility companies who were told to get rid of it.
So whats the climate change fuss really all about?
Way back when they had a Exhibit at Disneyland sponsored by GE called the Carousel of Progress. It showed the advances in modern living throughout the years.
On the way out you passed a miniature all Electric City surrounding a Nuclear Power Plant.
Before that they had the all Electric Monsanto House of the future.

Democrats think bureaucrats produce electricity by pushing paper around.
Cuomo thinks hes a perpetual motion machine. Wonderful!
LOL!
Measure output in tons. Never get anyone to make pocket calculators or cell phones Q.E.D.
Mr. Cuomo, in a letter...The utilitys fundamental legal obligation was to plan and provide for future needs, the governor wrote. You failed by your own admission.
It looks like the utility was blocked - BY THE STATE - from "planning and providing for future needs."
Democrats think if you put up a wall and put an electrical outlet in it, you get electricity.
National Grid has already said they will deliver compressed natural gas in trucks if that's what it takes to get the supply they need.
Buy stock futures in anything related to Pennsylvania, folks. New York State put a moratorium on gas pipeline construction because they didn't want to import gas from the Marcellus Shale deposit in central/western Pennsylvania for their utilities. Now, Pennsylvania will be supplying the gas to New York anyway ... and their trucking industry will see a huge business boom as well.
Few things in this world are as profitable as selling to morons, or to Democrats ... but then I repeat myself.
Sure, cut off the gas supply entirely. New York can live of the bloated gas of their politicians.
Cuomo is a classic case of where one hand of NYs state government doesnt know what the other hand is doing.
Then again, Democrats dont take responsibility; they pass the buck and shift the blame.
