Warren releases 'Medicare for All' plan with no tax hike on middle class

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Friday released a new plan laying out how she would pay for her "Medicare for All" proposal that would not directly raise taxes on the middle class, responding to pressure and criticism from other Democrats in the presidential race.

The plan is a shift from Warren's progressive rival in the 2020 primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has said tax hikes on the middle class will be necessary to help pay for Medicare for All.

“We don’t need to raise taxes on the middle class by one penny to finance Medicare for All,” Warren wrote in a Medium post published Friday. The senator instead recommended new taxes on the rich, corporations and employers, as well as cuts to defense spending.

Warren’s plan, which would cover health care and long-term care for everyone living in the U.S. while eliminating private insurance, would cost an additional $20.5 trillion in new federal spending over ten years.

That is a lower estimate than the $34 trillion in new federal spending the Urban Institute recently reported would be needed to fund a single-payer program.

That Warren’s plan won’t raise taxes on the middle class is significant. Other Democrats running for president, who increasingly view Warren as the party’s front-runner, have frequently tried to peg her down on the proposal’s costs and implications for middle class families.

An attempt to humanize Warren. This comes after Biden said he wanted to put a dog back in the White House.

Democrats are now playing the pet card:

As long as unicorns are willing to pay for it all, I think this idea is going to work.

This does not include unfunded liabilities of SS, Medicare, and medicaid plus all the state underfunded pensions. Last estimate I saw was
$70 trillion.

Unfortunately, socialism will always be popular because many believe they can get something for nothing.

I don’t think this press release helps Warren politically.

From some other coverage of her scheme:

“The plan is designed to hit corporations and the wealthy, including a provision requiring companies to send most of the funds they currently spend on employee health contributions to the federal government. It also expands Warren’s signature wealth tax proposal, cuts military spending and takes advantage of what she says would be significant savings from eliminating private insurance’s vast bureaucracy.”

I extract from this that if she looks to be the nominee companies will start terminating their employee health plans so as to avoid forking that money over to FedGov should she get elected.

Why is she talking about 'medicare for all'?

ObamaCare was taunted as the solution to health care costs.

We don’t need to raise taxes on the middle class by one penny to finance Medicare for All...

She's either the biggest liar in history or is as dumb as a bag of hammers. Her solution is to tax the wealthy and raise corporate income taxes. Where does this 10 year old mental giant think the money comes from for corporations to pay those taxes? The funds come from middle class people who buy goods and services. Raise corporate taxes and they will follow with higher prices in an attempt to protect profit margins.

If you think taxing the wealthy is a good idea, ask the mayors of NYC for the past 15 years is wealth is mobile. Tax heavy states like CA, NY, and NJ have had net out migration because of their state tax policies. Think it doesn't apply to countries, ask Britain about the impact the Super Tax had on their economy in the late 1960's.

Wealth is mobile and it will seek to protect itself. So fess up, Stupid, your spending plans all will result in higher taxes. Any other statement is a lie.

The total collected by the Fed govt. in taxes per year is 3.6 trillion.

This would cost 2+ trillion per year or 55% of every penny currently collected in taxes.

You figure it out.

Sure, ban all private insurance and if you like your doctor you can keep him, right? Only one little problem. Doctors can’t run their offices on the payments medicare will allow them, so you drive the private doctors out of business. Same with private hospitals and clinics. Then we’ll be left with government run hospitals and clinics where everyone will be crowding in to get healthcare. Then with the government running everything, costs go up, quality and availability go down. Socialism sucks.
