Didn’t California have a plan to make setting up HAM radio repeaters cost a fortune. What happens when cell phones don’t work?
Probably wise to not depend on the gadgets as much as we do and plan for a time when cell phones don’t work.

Maybe that will get the residents of California pissed off at their government. Doubtful.

The more dependent for something the population is on the government, the more they will use it to control and punish the masses.

And as times goes on, more and more people only have cellular phones, and don’t even have a landline phone still their houses.
Lots of unintended consequences of cutting power to avoid fires. Unfortunately we are seeing major fires in spite of cutting off the power.

So much for calling for help.

The Public Advocates Office, an independent organization within the California Public Utilities Commission, has petitioned the CPUC to require cellular companies to have generators and back-up batteries on-site. Yes but those evil generators burn fossil fuel! Can't have that!

yes its pretty amazing, a corrupt power company controlling a whole gaggle of corrupt political hacks and “regulators” (ha ha, what a f...ing farce!)...
deciding to turn OFF people’s power (note that they still sent out their hyper-inflated monthly bills DURING the power blackout...many people got their d*** bills during the power outage, how’s THAT for corporate Public Relations!?)
$300 to pay... for a blackout...
and then they turn off the phones TOO, at the same time...
...
almost any 3rd world country would be better than Californication! What a screwed up state!

LOL. Require backup power systems. Which the cost for will be passed along to consumers, who will then whine about the cost.

50-70 mph winds over much of SOCAL. Last night and today. Maybe even a little cold with the windchill factor.
What do the homeless do? Do their tent cities blow away?
