The judge in the murder trial of a former Dallas police officer charged with shooting and killing a black neighbor has taken the rare step of sequestering the jury.
Former officer Amber Guyger, who is white, has told investigators in Texas she mistook Botham Jean, 26, for an intruder after she mistakenly entered his central Dallas apartment one floor above hers.
The shooting in September last year, one of a series of high-profile killings of unarmed black men and teens by white US police, sparked protests, particularly because prosecutors initially moved to charge Guyger, 31, with manslaughter, a charge that carries a lesser sentence.

This trial just started today. I wonder how long it will last? She’s going to be found guilty, I’m sure.
Sentencing will likely come later this year. I wonder how much time she will get.
So does that mean they are going to be lodged in a hotel at taxpayer’s expense?
Never should have been a cop in the first place.
I don’t trust a word she says. I hope she gets nailed for her lies.
She goes into an apartment thinking it’s hers and doesn’t know that things such as chairs and couches and whatever don’t look the same and the guy just standing there?
The judge is making a good decision.
Its going to be a media circus.
Im glad they are keeping the trial in Dallas County.
Ah. This link says the trial will last two weeks.
If the jury is sequestered - that might just speed things up a little.
Especially jury deliberations. lol
sorry hon... your time on this earth is done... just like the poor man you kilt.
do not fall for her tears.
This was probably murder. I’ve lived in at least 9 apartments/condos, and I never entered the wrong address. Her story doesn’t make sense.
I think it was a hit, and that there was something between the two of them.
That would be hard to miss.....
Don't make it sound like a fun luxury vacation. The TVs will be taken out of their rooms, they won't be allowed newspapers or family contact. They'll be watched by deputies constantly. Some say the OJ Simpson verdict was what it was because they just wanted out of there.
She’s a lying Bee-otch, and she’s going to be exposed.
I hope so.
Yep. Lodging and food. Bailiffs watching them 24/7. No TV. No internet.
No fun.
Well, yeah, but she compensated for it by shooting the guy out of his shoes.
I agree.
Sounds like Jury hell.
“This (ex) cop is (deservedly) screwed.”
Concur.
Even if true, her story is not self-defense.
She walked into someone else’s house (and said somebody was minding his own business) and shot him, allegedly by accident.
If she wasn’t a cop, they’d already have fried her.
Many years ago, when I had an upstairs neighbor that I didn’t like, I nixed this idea. However if I were a cop....................................
