Trump: US locked and loaded for response to attack on Saudis

A weekend drone attack on Saudi Arabia that cut into global energy supplies and halved the kingdom’s oil production threatened Sunday to fuel a regional crisis, as the U.S. released new evidence to back up its allegation that Iran was responsible for the assault amid heightened tensions over Tehran’s collapsing nuclear deal.

President Donald Trump said the U.S. had reason to believe it knew who was behind the attack — his secretary of state had blamed Iran the previous day — and assured his Twitter followers that “we are ... locked and loaded” depending on verification and were waiting to hear from the Saudis as to who they believe was behind the attack and “under what terms we would proceed!”

The changing storyline ought to be a giant red flag to anyone who looks at this objectively. First it was a drone attack, then it was a missile attack. And then I saw a story today that said it was “a swarm of drones and missiles.”

Well, OK. Maybe it was meteors, too.

Does anyone here expect to get the real story from their government? LOL.

AC, no. Iran exports its oil to rogue regimes. Not into the worldwide marketplace. The US sanctions ensure this. Any disruption of Iranian oil has NO AFFECT on commodity prices at all.
However, disruption of Saudi supplies most certainly do. This attack was designed to do just that. President Trumps order to release our Reserves if necessary and to accelerate the oil pipeline approvals as a result will minimize the affect on oil and fuel prices.
The USA is now the worlds leader in oil and gas production and exportation this helps to offset worldwide threats and instability. But, it does not eliminate it.

I appreciate your reply. Thank you. While I respect your opinion and agree we should avoid another conflict, again sometimes we don’t have a choice if the other party continues to attack. As I posted to you earlier, I think in this case we should let the nation that was attacked lead in getting skin in this fight. But we also have to be prepared for further escalation now.

Only three things can happen now. 1) Iran caves peacefully, not likely 2) we, as in saudis, us, everybody, do nothing which will lead to Iran escalating, and 3) saudis counter punch with or without us, in which case we find ourselves in an escalation anyway as we have to many US interests (companies, workers, yes even oil) in the region that will be under attack.

It’s not a great set of choices. I am not looking forward to it, but we need to be ready and sober about the likely next steps. I don’t see any of those next steps involving sending in boots, but a very high probability, if we do get involved, of several days of strikes.

Gaijin, please reread my post. Nowhere did I say that. I said I trust President Trump until I have reason not to. President Trump says we have concrete evidence the attack came from Iran. The Saudi’s say the attack was missiles and not drones. President Trump backs this up.
If you have concrete evidence they are both wrong please present it for all to see.

Thank you for trying to keep me civilized. LOL.

The only problem with the scenarios you presented, based on what I’ve seen on other threads, is that Saudi Arabia is pretty much incapable of projecting military force. Apparently they deliberately keep their military in a poor state of readiness because a military coup is a much bigger threat to their leadership than Iran is.

Gaijin, please reread my post.

Okay:

"The Saudi’s say it was not a Drone attack but was a missile attack."

You typed that, right..?

I think you're thoughtful and concerned and while our arrangements with the Saudis have their purpose, uh....I would urge caution with relying on what they say. If they coughed up physical evidence I would very politely look at it and I would have doubts about that stuff, too.

The Saudis have a very long history of regarding people as their servants and in all honesty I agree; I think we really have been their servants.

Actually LOTS of people in that corner of the world tend to share that view. In fact, some of them view us as CATTLE.

I’ve have seen that opinion as well. I question with the air and naval assets they own why they would not have offensive power, but I haven’t got another source, at least on the weekend, to understand this better. I would concur that in many cases these regimes have military mostly to keep their own people in order. In that may be the answer. If you have a weapons platform but you never train with it to do anything but suppress your own people, then they may not have a viable offensive force.

Though this was not addressed to me I beg your indulgence for my reply. The Saudi population is a pampered population. Their military consists almost exclusively of their well equipped Air Force. Their standing Army is a joke. Nearly non-existent.
For this reason they are ill prepared for a serious war. The rag tag Houthi rebels in Yemen are giving them a serious problem because of this fact.
The thing that has protected them from Islamist invasion and destruction is the fact that the most holy of muslim holy sites reside in Saudi Arabia and they do not want to desecrate those sites.

I appreciate the reply!

Dumb question: Should the U.S. even waste its time and money defending a “pampered” country that has no interest in defending itself?

Yes. I typed that correctly. AND President Trump has backed that assertion up. I trust Trump. Until I have verifiable evidence not to.

How dare you demean OUR President. Whatever President Trump has in store is a strategy like none other. If it’s time to go to war with Iran, I trust him and his superior intellect and judgment. He has earned it. If this is a bluff, even better. Also, to question those around him, at this stage of historic presidency is above and beyond. He vetted and appointed these people, selected the best and the brightest, and is smart enough to take their information and do with it as a he should; like a leader. It took him a couple of appointments to get his feet wet and uncover the deep state plants, but st this point our leader doesn’t appoint snakes. He appoints the best (even if you can’t see it). Get behind OUR President.

AC, wrong question. The question is, do we want to protect a critical worldwide commodity whose price affects every nation, every company, and every family in every nation on earth?
My answer is absolutely.

...”do we want to protect a critical worldwide commodity..”

Does Great Britain want to protect it? Does Australia? Does Mexico? Does Canada? Does Ireland? Does France? Sweden? So many others?

Is there silence from everyone else while who knows who tries to get President Trump involved in war?

Who demeans President? My post was a response for another post and none of these demeaned President. Just pointed at the fact that his surrounding in constantly trying to force him into things he said he doesn’t stand for. These are no reasonable arguments against it.
