US Natural Gas Will Soon Run the World
American Thinker ^ | 08/03/2019 | Todd Royal

Posted on 08/03/2019 6:12:01 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

United States carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the power sector and the broader economy have declined 61 percent between 2006 and 2014, mainly from "switching from coal-to-gas-powered generation," according to the U.S. Department of Energy's Second Installment of the Quadrennial Energy Review, January 2017.  These environmentally sound numbers from higher use of natural gas can also be translated globally to help with pollution in countries such as China, India, and the entire continent of Africa.

The U.S. now uses natural gas converted to liquid natural gas (LNG) from shale deposits in states such as Texas, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania to transform geopolitics.  Lower LNG prices stymie terrorist-financing budgets in Tehran and lower the ability for Putin's Russia to weaponize their energy assets for geopolitical adventures in Ukraine, Crimea, Syria, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

How this new soft power of energy transforms the world economically, geopolitically, and positively toward Western-aligned institutions is through increasing LNG exports, which "hit a new record high at 4.7 billion cubic feet per day in May 2019."  The U.S. is approximately the world's third largest LNG exporter.  Illustrating this power has seen the U.S. add four new LNG trains "with a combined capacity of 2.4Bcf/d come online since November 2018."

Countries with heavy LNG deposits can transform their national fate and redirect their foreign policy and national security initiatives without deploying their militaries.  Energy economics overtakes military significance, because everyone needs the power generation and electricity that clean-burning LNG exports provide.

Cautiously heartening.

Will LNG ever be able to compete with crude oil imports as a feed stock for fuel for cars and trucks?

Traditional refineries “crack” oil. Can they “splice” gas? Direct LNG powering is possible too, but needs special design.

Perhaps so, since Soylent Green is people.

Natural gas prices are dropping. Closed at 2.12 yesterday. My son works in the industry. With prices this low work has been slow. He says at 2.00 it will stop. We better find something to do with the stuff. We have too much of it.

Well lucky for the rest of us (not taking into account we'll all be gone in 18 months, or 11.37 years?) the city council in berzerklee has decreed all new dwellings will be gas free. Yup, only 'electric will be available. More for us.😁

"United States carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the power sector and the broader economy have declined 61 percent between 2006 and 2014"

Will that give us a few extra years, or do we still only have 11.5?

“Countries with heavy LNG deposits,,,”. What a hack writer. The USA runs mostly on natural gas. While some LNG is in use most of it is exported and none of it exist as a deposit anywhere in the world.

NG is extremely efficient as a motor fuel. Very clean at it too.

Several oil companies are using natural gas to make petroleum products, especially motor oil. Shell’s Pennzoil division has been doing this for a number of years for their synthetic motor oils.

This is why Russia--with Chinese help--is about to open up natural gas fields in eastern Siberia. That way, China can switch from coal burning to using natural gas to generate electricity, which would be VASTLY better for the health of Chinese citizens (no oxides of sulfur, particulates and heavy metals fouling the air).

Too funny. Russia is helping China clean up? Russia is selling gas for the money the my don’t give a flip about helping China cut emissions. And Russia also knows that if they do not exploit Siberian resources but especially hydrocarbons and coal the Chinese certainly will.

CNG is already used in many public busses and gas industry vehicles. Burns clean, engines last longer. It’s fairly cheap (several thousand dollars) to make a vehicle able to run either gasoline or CNG.

The downsides are:

1) The need for an additional CNG tank
2) Starting an engine with CNG is difficult in cold weather
3) CNG has less energy output than gasoline, making it less efficient for towing and hills.

All of the downsides are manageable, and the auto industry looked like it was headed toward stock dual fuel use vehicles UNTIL Obama was elected and pushed them to electric.

I know someone who has a plumbing company in Houston Texas that runs all of their trucks of NG. They have a "spigot" tapped right in the gas line at the shop.

I was going to say the same - just shows the power of the president. Left alone, we’d be well on our way towards a good number of cars running on natural gas.

Someone should offer a NG car.
