I live just a mere 18 miles forma a large city with NG, there is no reason why I do not have access.
The problem is capitalism is not getting it done. Capitalism does have its limitations.
Drilling in the Permian basin has pretty much ceased. What’s more, some drilled wells are not being put into production.
There is excess crude to the point it can not be sold domestically. There are problems, bottlenecks if you will, in the transport and port facitlties needed to process and export the crude.
A church I belonged to had its building a couple hundred feet from a gas main - but it would have been more expensive than it was worth to get the gas line run to our building. Partly because we wouldnt have used very much NG anyway - and that would have been the end of that line, so nobody to share the cost.At that same time, we couldnt get gas to our house economically, either. We ended up using bottled gas.
So it depends, considerably, on how many neighbors you have how close.
No, the government should make this happen. This is a time when government supersedes the private sector profit needs. NG is monopoly so yes, I sad FORCE THEM. Capitalism is not getting it done.
Anything you say, Comrade Stalin.. . . but wouldnt you really prefer that they be forced to generate electric energy with windmills, and provide batteries to store all the needed energy? (we know its needed, that isnt in question since you want it).
Yes, they( NG providers) are a public utility and a monopoly. They are highly regulated. SO FORCE is the correct word. If it requites a subsidies then do it. We could take away the $25B farm subsidy and use that money IF NEEDED. If the bean counters had their way rural electrification would still be pipe dream.
