A large primary field may fragment the vote, making it unlikely that a candidate could win a majority and avoid a runoff and making it easier for Moore to advance to a runoff with only the support of his base.
The point is that Moore does have a path especially a path to a primary runoff if theres a crowded GOP field. And if he does get there, he would be only one step away from a rematch with Jones.
Moore would still have a decent chance of winning a general election in conservative Alabama, and that is surely a big part of why hes running again.

Moore wouldn’t shake anything up, he will be a Senator, that is all. He needs to be defeated so we regain the Seat.
A very poor decision on Trump's part.
Moore lost too. So we’re just supposed to support him this time around again to lose?
Would Strange have won once the dirt on him came out?
I don’t know anything about Strange other than he at least had won one state wide race before.
Moore had not accomplished that.
Why not?
Does it matter? Is Strange running this time? I haven’t heard he was.
Neither does Mitch "Cocaine" McConnell.
He just has a microphone and checkbook that is bigger than mine.
The objective is to end up with the most conservative candidate that is electable.
And how much damage can be done by leaving Jones in the senate. If he loves this country, if he wants to keep judges getting approved, he will not run. Its a selfish act.
The entire reason that special election was moved up a year was because of the appointment of Strange by the corrupt ex-Governor in exchange for not moving forward in indicting him. When the Governor (Bentley) finally had to resign, the new Governor Ivey had to move the election ahead a year because the people were outraged at this corrupt appointment. Strange was a no-go from jump street and should not have even run in the special election. I’m baffled as to why Trump was not apprised of this situation.
I thought Ivey had a choice not to have it.
I don’t care if Moore can win. I want someone that WILL win.
The hysterical reactions to his candidacy proves otherwise.
Any conservative that wasn't inept would have beaten in liberal in Alabama but double digits.
Moore is as bad a candidate as Hillary Clinton.
LOL
You would back a dumb@ss like Akin.
Um, you do know that Roy Moore had to run statewide for Chief Justice ? He did so twice and won both times. Luther Strange had also run statewide three times. He lost for Lt Governor in 2006 (hence making him a “loser”) before he won Atty General in 2010 and 2014. Strange was also something Moore was not, and that was corrupt.
Chief Justice is political appointment.
That you don’t know who Strange is matters enormously. Why do you think the AL GOP voters so easily nominated Roy Moore over a Presidentially-endorsed Strange ? If you don’t know that story, you’re not going to be in a position to make informed comments on this subject.
