The FBI Tragedy: Elites above the Law
National Review ^ | June 11, 2019 6:30 AM | By VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

After decades in the FBI, the top brass came to believe they could flout the law and pursue their own political agendas. One of the media and beltway orthodoxies we constantly hear is that just a few bad apples under James Comey at the FBI explain why so many FBI elites have been fired, resigned, reassigned, demoted, or retired — or just left for unexplained reasons. The list is long and includes director James Comey himself, deputy director Andrew McCabe, counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok, attorney Lisa Page, chief of staff James Rybicki, general counsel James Baker, assistant director for public affairs Mike Kortan, Comey’s special assistant Josh Campbell, executive assistant director James Turgal, assistant director for office of congressional affairs Greg Bower, executive assistant director Michael Steinbach, and executive assistant director John Giacalone. In short, in about every growing scandal of the past two years — FISA, illegal leaking, spying on a presidential candidate, lying under oath, obstructing justice — someone in the FBI is involved.

There are a small number of Hillary supporters I am willing to interact with who held clearances. Every single one of them admits that they would have been “in Leavenworth” or somewhere equivalent if they had done what we all know (from Hillary supporter Jim Comey’s statements) Hillary did. They also think it’s different because America needs her to keep us on that path. That disgusts me. If you hear me chanting “lock her up!” it’s because that’s what would have happened to me, and I believe in the rule of law.

Note: Those on the anti-American side who count on that inclination are under a false assumption that decent Americans will always be constrained by the rule of law. The fact is that if they cross any of the lines they have toed up to, including but not limited to further infringements on the First and Second Amendments, all bets are off.

Not all of the fbi, but it is way more than sean hannity and his teeny weeny just a few fbi agents.

There is corruption through out the entire fbi organization, and those that don't actively participate, standby and remain silent, pretending that they see nothing.

I think transferring the role of the fbi to the US Marshals, and making all fbi agents undergo lie detector tests, and other forms of interrogation before they can transfer would be appropriate.

Ruby Ridge
Waco
‘93 WTC attack
911 coverup of the money trail
Coverup of 2008 movement of 500B out of the stock market.
These are what we know about.

How many don’t we know about.

“Really? I’ve seen no evidence that these dedicated field agents are doing anything other than following the lead of their bosses”

They were certainly dedicated to meeting CNN on time at Roger’s house.

If it takes 4+ years to get a coup stopped and punished, what's the point of voting at all? Really.

Because the Swamp has been built up over the past century, starting with Wilson. Trump is good; but he's not God. People in this country have been denied basic civics instructions and subjected to massive propaganda for the past three generations. It will take time for the People to learn enought to support a President's efforts to turn around the vast ship of state.

One reason the Federal system should be revived is that it is the only possible way to achieve the most freedom for the most people. If they don't like what their state is doing, they can go down to their statehouse and protest, instead of trying to impose their local situation's characteristics onto the entire nation and inflict their will by buying U.S. Congresspersons. Any nation of this size is ungovernable from a central location without becoming a dictatorship.

I hope you're referring to the top echelon who were involved in Spygate, not the majority of field agents who are dedicated and who, for the most part, despise what has happened over the past few years.

Before I read any more on this thread I'm gonna say that I doubt you'll find many on this forum that agree with that statement. IMO, your opinion of the FBI rank-and-file is farcical.

Yeah. No... those pure-as-the-driven-snow field agents don’t exist. They’re a figment of Sean Hannity’s imagination.

Frankly, I'm relieved at the response I've seen. When I started coming to FR many, many moons ago, you would have seen a much different response. Nice to see how many now agree with me.

I would shut down the doors. The reliable politic free officers either picked up by a new agency or spread out into other agencies.

The rest? show the door.

“for the most part, despise what has happened over the past few years.”

I used to believe that. No more. Not one single “rank and file” whistleblower has come forward.

Not one.

Whose responsibility was it to investigate Russia's tips about the Boston Marathon bombers?

For all of the BS under Obama and the BS happening to POTUS Trump,I find it perplexing that we never see whistle blowers.

I agree with you. When this story first broke, we heard about "100's of "rank & file" FBI agents who were upset & just chomping at the bit to come forward with the true story. Where are they? I haven't heard any of them. Have none of them retired, or quit & feel free to tell the truth. It seems there would be a lucrative book deal for anyone willing to come forward, if they exist.

Those "upper echelon" FBI agents set the tone, rose through the ranks, trained the field agents, wrote policy manuals showed the rank & file agents how to advance & be a "real" FBI agent. I've worked for enough big corporations to know that management sets the culture. Especially if management has been there for 20-30 years

I'm more inclined to believe it is the other away around - it is only a few who are not corrupt.
