President Donald Trump on Friday night backed down from imposing a 5% tariff on all goods entering the country from Mexico, instead reaching an agreement with the country.
On Twitter, Trump wrote that Mexico “agreed to take strong measures” to “stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border.”
He added that the agreement would “greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States,” but left it up to the State Department to provide further details.
The tariffs that were to go into effect Monday have been “indefinitely” suspended, Trump wrote.

Sounds good, but we need to see real results within a month or two, otherwise it won’t be unreasonable to suspect Mexico of trying to run out the clock if they don’t really crack down immediately. And at some point they will have to use some unpleasant level of force because they tried to close a part of their southern border before and the illegal migrants just pushed down a gate and fencing and walked right in.
This is a move that can be stopped as quick, or quicker than it can be started by Mexico.
We’ll see. I think this was B.S. from the beginning. I’m not happy about this handling of the invasion. This is a Cold Mexican American War that will get hot.

Mexico didn’t really try before, that was for show.
Mexico has started cracking down already; it will take a bit for it to make a difference in what we see. The flood will have to recede.

I do not trust Mexico but we shall see.
Whatever Mexico did or didn't do before, a large crowd of migrants did topple a gate and fencing on Mexico's southern border and then just walk right in, with Mexican border personnel standing by and doing nothing. And they'll have to be shown that they can't continue to just shove the border barriers down by weight of numbers.
Since the illegals have been transiting Mexico in a few weeks with all the rail car riding and buses provided, if it is stopped then it should be evident at our border within a month or so.
