The Trump administration on Friday announced that it would allow for the year-round sale of gasoline with higher concentrations of ethanol.
The action addresses a rule the Environmental Protection Agency had in place preventing the sale of so-called E15 fuel, which contains 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline, between June 1 and Sept. 15. The purpose was to prevent air pollution and curb dependence on foreign petroleum, but the ban has stopped some retailers from selling E15 at all because of the need to change out pumps.

Shouldnt be using ethanol in gasoline at all.

Yeh, interesting that EPA is against this, stating it will increase pollution. Not too long ago EPA was saying ethanol was cleaner than fossil fuels. Now as a result of ethanol theres ground water pollution, huge dead zone in Gulf, my Cheerios cost more, etc,etc...
I don’t want my car to run just ‘OK’. Also, ethanol is a dilutant. It doesn’t pack the energy that gasoline does, so you use more of the fuel and higher ethanol-gasoline ratios — thus wasting money by getting lower mileage and performance.
The election is 16 months away. Beliefs that turn into something that makes money for farmers, needs to happen 2 months ago. Republican farmers don't die or turn Democrat, they sell to the highest bidder. And then they usually take their money and move to a state with a higher population where their vote doesn't count as much as it does in farm country. Right now, farmers are losing time and money on China, India, Mexico, Canada etc... We need to win this trade disruption by not losing the farm states in 2020. Every electoral number counts. Just ask Hillary and Al Gore. E15 can die in 2021 or later. Right now, it's our political tool.
With our vast oil reserves, why are we still importing it?
1. Ethanol is used in gasoline to meet EPA clean air standards. It replaces an additive called MTBE, which did the job just fine but was found to cause groundwater pollution problems.
2. The EPA ethanol requirement used to apply only in the summer months when air quality issues related to gasoline engines are a bigger problem.
3. This caused short-term price disruptions in most years. The slightly higher cost of ethanol-based fuel, coupled with the costs incurred by refineries to change their fuel mixes, usually resulted in rapid gasoline price hikes every April/May.
4. What the Trump administration has done is allow refineries to use the same ethanol blends consistently throughout the year for the sole purpose of eliminating these short-term price disruptions when the blends are changed every spring.
Probably gonna add some 15% pumps to the line up...some cars have been out for a while that will run on 100% ethanol and i figure that by now most cars can handle the higher level with no problem...and there are lots of outlets where they sell pure gas with no ethanol...some folks with older cars are upset but do they want us to still carry tubes for antique TV sets too?
Hope your TV is new enough you don’t need a ready supply of tubes....Win95 is no longer supported either. They sell pure gas at a lot of places....not gonna break out the tiney violins for now....
I bought a generator last year that has E15 on the gas cap with a circle around it and slash through it, meaning No E15 and it also has E10 with a check mark next to it.
The government has no business forcing gasoline makers to use ethanol. It’s nothing but an income transfer from consumers to big business farming. And it’s not all that easy on engines.
Im against ethanol too, but this issue is a bit more complicated than it seems.
Another one is that in a large vehicle carrying a load I would NEVER use ethanol.
In town, small car, cost per mile is better than the non ethanol. And it does have a pollution factor in the city.
This is a bone for the farmers, of which I am one. Simply asking farmers to adjust, or not plant corn is not feasible. I’d love to plant hemp, more money, hell I’d grow marijuana, but government restricts what I plant, basically restricts everything. If they lift restrictions on selling of ethanol, it’s the least they can do. Don’t buy it, but I know a lot of green loving granolas will love it cause they are “saving the environment”
Every marina here has a fuel dock....and no ethanol gas to be found.
Sorry. Should’ve said harbor. Not marina.
I used to have to go more than 40 miles to get pure gas. They recently opened up a Bucees in Denton, Tx that is a lot closer for me with pure gas. They even have separate nozzles for it, so you don’t get the junk mixed in when you pump.
I believe there’s a way to help farmers make the same or even more money but there must be political will in DC to make it happen. Farmers like yourself have the answers better than 99% of the politicians; most of which can’t be trusted.
The problem is complex. Votes count of course, then there are the eco-terrorists, then the dems in congress who just want to make life as difficult as possible for both President Trump and most Americans.
Thanks Boomer.
Corn fed gasoline is to gasoline
what corn syrup Coke is to sugar Coke.
Ethanol is an inefficient disaster. Massive government boondoggle.
Oh, and HFCS is not the same as regular sugar. Digested in the liver with a quick overflow getting converted into fat.
