Lancaster County Council member Larry Honeycutt is no longer a Democrat.
Honeycutt, elected to his fourth term in 2018, informed the local party Thursday that he was leaving. In an interview, the 81-year-old said he doesnt plan to run for office again or join another political party.

Ive thought about this for some time, and Ive done what I felt like in good conscience that I should do, he said Friday. I dont plan to go back. Im not going to join anyone else. Im going to be independent.
Honeycutt, calling himself a lifelong Democrat, said he is frustrated by the national partys swing to the left.
He wrote a letter to local Democratic Party Chairman Keith Grey, saying that for the first time in my life I am ashamed of the Democratic Party and the way they are acting toward the country.
Honeycutt, a Navy veteran, said Friday he chose to leave because Democrats are no longer the party he grew up believing in. Calling it a personal decision, he said it was time for him to step up and say enough is enough.
I really dont want to elaborate on my decision, other than to say Democrats no longer represent me and the way I feel about this great country, he said.
Grey could not be reached for comment Friday, though he did email Honeycutt to thank him for his years of service to Lancaster County.
I know that serving your constituents has always been your highest priority and has contributed to this being the place I am so proud to now call my home. I am sorry to hear you no longer feel that you can identify with the Democratic Party and the direction it is headed, Grey wrote.
Grey, however, differed in his opinion of the national political fray, saying that the party is headed back to the Democratic Party of FDR that lifted the country out of the Great Depression and started Social Security, Medicare and greatest middle class of any country in world history.
Honeycutt said he cant stomach the partys new direction. I just dont like what I see anymore, he said.
Party politics aside, Honeycutt said he intends to represent the residents in county council District 4 until his current term expires.
Thats what the folks elected me to do. Throughout my years on council, I have been supported by Democrats and Republicans alike, he said.
The one thing I have learned is if youre doing a good job and representing your constituents fairly and honestly, theyre gonna vote for you, Honeycutt said.
We’re in dire need of a new party.
The TRUMP party?
Hes 81 y/o and has served this country and his community

He’s only 81.

I hope the other dems start to wake up at a younger age.
The 3 Amigas want all the old white folks out of their new order party. They’ll be thrilled.
And here I thought the article must have been about Rick Honeycutt, a notable former Dodgers Pitcher.
The Democrats are getting very strange, Trump tweeted of their current agenda.
<><> Lowering voting age to 6, sorry 16.
<><> Anti-semitism as official US foreign policy
<><> Making the US the next Mexico
<><> The intel apparat used to smear opposition candidates
<><> Unisex bathrooms

<><> A Green New Deal.

<><> “Pump the Vote” (Voter registration at gas stations).
That’s what I was thinking.

Age Restrictions for holding government office.
He’s 81 years old and he’s not running again. Sounds like a phony to me.
Okay, thank you for your service...I’m glad you did it, hope #walkaway will convince people to walk away.
It took a long time for South Carolina to stop being thoroughly repulsed by the Republican party. Lincoln’s war to rescind Southern independence cast a long, dark shadow here. I recall some friends of my parents in Philadelphia expressed surprise and joy when JFK won SC on election night in 1960. My dear Mom, an SC native, explained to them that SC voted for JFK because he was the Democratic party nominee, and the majority of voters in SC were supporting their party, despite him being a Catholic. She contrasted that with the Philadelphia friends, who had been lifelong Republicans but supported JFK because he was a Catholic.
This is what happens when AOC and her idiots buds keep their mouths open and we let them ramble.
