What Would a Hybrid Civil War Look Like?
Belmont Club / PJ Media ^ | MARCH 2, 2019 | Richard Fernandez

Posted on 03/04/2019 3:17:23 PM PST by Jack Black

Hardly a day goes by without the tempo of political hostility rising -- sometimes to the level of physical confrontation. Recently, "a man being sought for the assault of a conservative activist on the University of California, Berkeley campus [was] arrested."

There is less and less regret for incivility. Nobody says sorry anymore, they just retreat into a private reality where they are always right. The Washington Post, still reeling from misidentifying the victim and aggressor in a story about Covington Catholic High School students and activist Nathan Phillips, simply slapped itself on the wrist with an Editor's Note admitting it got its account wrong and declared it all square. That was better than YouTube, which allegedly deplatformed a retired Navy SEAL who debunked Nathan Phillips' claim that he was a Vietnam vet.

I still think the Democrats will risk a civil war rather than lose the White House for another 6 years.

I agree.....until they start seeing thier fan base in piles, and used to build the wall!!!!

And neighbors burning each other’s houses down with bullets flying everywhere as food & water run out.

Shelter in place means you will die.

At which point you had full on civil war, with massive weapons of war like tanks and artillery being used. I expect the run up here to be similar.

And who will provide the weaponry?

To far too many democrats in office, dead supporters are their most reliable voters. They don’t care how many they have to kill to take and hold power.

I expect electricity, communications, and water infrastructure to go down for the duration early.

If things get ugly, one side or the other will benefit from each of these disruptions, so I agree that they will go down. The big ones will be food deliveries and water, and those will hit population centers first. I would prefer to avoid that catastrophe, but I don't think democrats in office care either way (not even about those they have made dependent on government), so long as they can take and perhaps hold power.

“For the most part the natural targets are living in high security enclaves.”

No, the real natural targets are those who do the state’s work on the ground. Officials and functionaries of all levels, and their families. Teachers, policemen, mayors, judges, legal staff, clerks. Those were the people assassinated in Vietnam and Iraq; also those of ones own who sided with the state. Collaborators. Also the first targets. There is an an enormous body of experience of these sorts of wars.

What do you think “...those implementing hybrid warfare tactic on the local level,” means?

Who says it will be made with civilians? All Trump needs to do is call for everyone who love freedom to bring their guns and march on DC.

There are actually three key players within each state that determines its place in a civil war. You mentioned the governor and the sheriffs. The other is the local commanders of any federal military and civilian defense facilities. The political views of these commanders, and their willingness to follow or disagree with national orders becomes a key ingredient of what can happen in those states that have significant federal facilities. Air and naval based facilities have an immediate reach far beyond the state they are located in

It is the fracture of the military which creates the real bloodbath and destruction.

if you think enough military (Especially retired variety) will branch off, keep dreaming.

You must not talk to too many currently serving. It's a topic they discuss pretty frequently amongst themselves. If you think they don't already have plans in place, you're deluding yourself.

Soros’ color revolution gayness has been the plan all along. Remember Hillary and those dorks trying to make the purple lameness happen after the election.

They don’t understand. This is America, we would slaughter them in a week.

No doubt they will be warned to “stay out of it.”

Whether they will do so is another matter.

I think the advantage would go to the side with control of the nukes. If I were running things and had control of the codes, my first strike would be the obliteration of an enemy metro area while the interest and TV networks are still up. Oakland or maybe Seattle, for example.

Think 911. It took just 19 to put this country into a tizzy.

They shut down all the public air traffic for days.

Anyone with any sense would see that 2 to 3 million would put a halt on the whole country.

No, the real natural targets are those who do the state’s work on the ground.

This has been gamed out in detail by many people on all sides.

The natural targets will be "soft ones". The political and corporate authorities will harden up very quickly with competent security teams. As long as they can pay their teams they will be safe. It is their support staff who will be left unprotected.

Journalists, Professors, Celebrities, Authors, Political Activists, and Public Relations officials will be the soft targets that get attention from the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy". Paradoxically, they will also get even more severe attention from the Leftists who will punish them for deviations from the cause and insufficient devotion. Internecine warfare will take out more Leftists than the "Right Wing" ever will.

There will be a lot of collateral damage (that means innocents killed) and the troubles will go on a lot longer than anyone wants them to. None of the original players will be left on stage when the show comes to an end.

Shelter in place means you will die.

Extended travel to a "bug-out" location also means you will die.

I expect that the best odds for survival are to join a local armed criminal gang, whose leaders are smart enough to avoid confrontations with the police or military forces. Even then, the long-term prospects are not very good.

Bear in mind that any group believed to possess supplies of food, medicine, or other valuables will likely be considered a "criminal gang" engaged in "hoarding". All sorts of formerly legal commercial trades and payment methods are likely to be classified as "black market" crimes eligible for severe punishments.

And in return for appropriate bribes, the contemporary authorities will look the other way,

I am not arguing or debating anything, just asking for clarification, but could you please let me know what this means? Who would cut off the infrastructure? Which side?

I just don’t now anything about it.
Thanks in advance.

Any side that gained an advantage.

A major part of warfare is logistics. Deprive your enemy of basic necessities while maintaining your own supply.

Study Sun Tsu or Carl Von Clausewitz, and see how much text they devote to logistics. This is basic, rudimentary material...which people who only read action novels or watch movies full of explosions never seem to contemplate.
