Ocasio-Cortez responds to Ivanka Trump: 'I actually worked for tips and hourly wages'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) responded Tuesday to criticism from Ivanka Trump by suggesting Trump's daughter learned about working "for tips & hourly wages ... 2nd-hand."

"As a person who actually worked for tips & hourly wages in my life, instead of having to learn about it 2nd-hand, I can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, with a link to reports of Ivanka Trump slamming Ocasio-Cortez earlier in the day.

"A living wage isn’t a gift, it’s a right. Workers are often paid far less than the value they create," she continued.

"A living wage isn’t a gift, it’s a right. Workers are often paid far less than the value they create," she continued.

Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) introduced the "Green New Deal" earlier this month. The climate change resolution seeks to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions while also creating millions of jobs. The resolution includes a universal jobs guarantee.

‘I actually worked for tips and hourly wages’

As big a pain in the ass and god-awful stupid she is, that’s more than Hillary or Michelle can say. If she could get squared away and the college bull shit pumped out of her melon she could be turned useful.

Reminds me of years ago when I was in the mortgage banking business.

The work force in the mortgage business waxes and wanes with the interest rates. When rates go up, volume slows and people are laid off. When rates go down, it is hard to staff up quickly enough to handle the added volume of loans that come with it. So people are hired from almost any field.

There was a joke in the industry, "Yesterday a go-go dancer, today an escrow officer," because it was hard to find people to work in an industry where layoffs were sometimes frequent and unpredictable.

"Yesterday a bartender, today a US congresswoman."

The joke writes itself. :-)

re: “’I actually worked for tips and hourly wages’”

But, did you ‘report’ accurately (to the IRS)?

".... Workers are often paid far less than the value they create..."

On the other hand, AO-C's Green New Deal provides for a "living wage" for those non-industrious folks who are "unwilling to work".

In which case, they are paid far more than the value they don't create.

How does AO-C reconcile those two statements with each other? The answer: She can't.

She is duplicitous and speaks out of both sides of her mouth at one time.

Some are overpaid for the value they don/t create. i.e. being in Congress.

But the song says: "You can't always get what you want!"

Missing from the entire "living wage" conversation is the absence of ambition one must have to get out of a low paying job

McDonalds gets ALL of it's managers from inside, those that see that serving at the counter is not the end all and aspire to do more.

Macdo's rewards those people with more money.

You hit on the key concept, ambition.

It stands to reason that as long as people have different ambitions, they will have different standards of living.

The point of socialism is to crush peoples’ ambitions, and make them accept whatever the State allows them to do.
