This country can't even get its act together and build high-speed rail along corridors where the population density and hassle of air travel makes for a perfect rail market -- like Boston to NYC to Washington.

It makes no sense to push this nonsense elsewhere until THIS corridor gets figured out.

RE: She’s nuts, Jim.

What does that make the New Yorkers who voted for her by a landslide?

”Well, the trains shouldn’t need much energy going south. It’s the trip north that eats up most of the energy.”

I’m guessing that’s because north is uphill and south is downhill? Just trying to reason this out using AOC logic.

A high speed rail from the US to Asia would not be a target for terrorists and would be very easy to protect from that.

I never have to stop and wait for a 300 car airplane at the airplane crossing when I’m late for work.

partial system between San Francisco and Bakersfield would be 2029

For all of its faults, San Francisco is still a tourist destination; Bakersfield, not so much. I can imagine people going to wanting to go to SF from Bakersfield, but not the other way. So half-filled trains going north and empty trains going south.

Just think of the Bakersfield station as remote parking for San Francisco.

RE: Congress needs to expel her for simply being too retarded to properly represent this nation.

What will her constituents who voted for her say if they do so? Will calling her a retard not mean that those who voted for her are similarly retarded?

What is it with Leftists and rail travel?

Because it is very European-like. And to a Lib, we need to be Europe in all ways (socialism, transportation, labor unions.....)

Railroads would be going back into the passenger train business if it penciled out.

But it doesn’t. The wonderful passenger service infrastructure that RRs once had was worth investing in when RRs had a virtual monopoly on long distance travel.

Air travel was very expensive then. American highways and autos were a slow option until Eisenhower built the Interstates. This has all changed.

As early as 1920 railroads had 120 mph service between major American cities. They could do it again, but it requires an expensive and continuing investment in roadbed that their current freight service doesn’t.
