This country can't even get its act together and build high-speed rail along corridors where the population density and hassle of air travel makes for a perfect rail market -- like Boston to NYC to Washington.

It makes no sense to push this nonsense elsewhere until THIS corridor gets figured out.

For specifics: I took the Amtrak ride, decades ago, and it was fine. Since then, I’ve traveled that run (NYC to DC) roughly 6 times. But what happens is that I look at both ends of the run, and find that the NYC end is probably ok, thanks to Rudy, and then Bloomberg (like it or not), but the DC part will get me killed.

So I look at Megabus (and others) - and it’s always the same, they keep me out of the ‘ethnic’ areas, which would put my life in danger.
