Kamala Harris vows to get rid of private health plans: 'Let's eliminate all of that. Let's move on'

California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris, speaking during a town hall Monday night, vowed to eliminate all private health care insurance for approximately 150 million Americans if she is elected president.

Asked by CNN host Jake Tapper if people who like their current health care insurance could keep it under Harris' "Medicare for All" plan, Harris indicated they could not -- but that, in turn, they would experience health care without any delays.

Her statements appeared to be a full-throated call for single-payer health insurance, as opposed to merely expanding Medicare, and a dramatic embrace of the kind of proposals advocated by Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders.

And then what? What happens when they put all the insurance companies out of business? I’m betting there’s more than 800,000 of those people. Will there be an outcry or will they be “Re-trained”?

What about - when the government runs all pharmacies and is the only buyer of prescription medicine with fixed pricing, will the Pharma companies spend $500,000,000 developing the next pill? Or just punt completely. What about their payrolls and shrinking R&D?

Not to mention companies like AM Best, S&P, Moodys, Fitch, etc. that rate all the insurance companies who now will no longer exists. Those companies will lose millions in revenue because their clients disappeared. What about those people?

We don’t live in Canada, we have a constitution. She can’t outlaw medical insurance. There will be health insurance in the U.S. even if there is medicaid for all. If you have a good job in the U.K. you purchase health insurance, you go to private hospitals.

I’d like to go back to medical options we had before HMO’s came along “to help”. It’s been downhill for medical freedom since then. But what we have now? Being forced to feed the health insurance beast? I’m all for leaving them out of the equation, unless it’s insurance we choose and there’s a “catastrophic” policy with a $1,000 ( or so) choice available.
