The White House is making plans Friday for an afternoon announcement about the border and the government shutdown, sources said, as President Donald Trump faces increasing pressure to find a way out of the weeks-long standoff.
The President did not originally have any announcements on his schedule, and the timing of the event could change, the sources said.
White House officials have been exploring ways out of the government shutdown, which on Friday led to widespread delays at East Coast airports. The pressure increased when two competing proposals to end the deadlock failed in the Senate on Thursday.
The President has not ruled out declaring a national emergency, and on Thursday repeatedly insisted he had many "alternatives" to securing border wall funding that did not involve Congress.
Officials continue to say, however, that they prefer solving the dispute legislatively, and have remained in close negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Meanwhile, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have indicated that they are waiting to see what the President will accept as part of a short-term funding deal.

Juan Castro is on Bloomberg right now, spewing heart-string talking points about the Shutdown.
Bloomberg has been all-in antiTrump all morning. Tell me this is not a coordinated propo blitz.
If that’s the case, then he may as well agree to a 200-300 year CR.
Why no executive order to build the wall as a matter of national defense? We still have a formally authorized war on terror, so why arent we securing our borders? Trump could do so on his own, as commander in chief. Very very strange that he chooses instead to negotiate away a real wall.
Is there anyone who honestly thinks that two or three weeks will make a difference in the negotiations and that there will be any change in the respective positions?
so what, make the Filibuster for a year. At some point they’ll have to explain why
horrible
Trump should say...
Congress has 3 wks to broker a deal.
If they don’t, I’m declaring a national emergency.
If Trump really wants the wall, why choose Pence and Kushnir as his negotiators? Are either of them wall supporters?
I really don’t get all this melting down about missing a couple of pay cheques. Firstly, if people don’t have some emergency savings they need to learn money management. Second, if they have to borrow to cover expenses for a month or two, the rates are low. You could borrow $10,000.00 for under $50 a month. You know the money is coming in, so if you have a $100 expense in the end for borrowing some money, there’s a hint to start saving some.
I don’t recall any wringing of hands and wailing when so many had no jobs or hope for jobs under Obama.
Stocks way off their highs for the day..maybe it’s not as bad as we all think (hoping..)
Any of them with half a brain should be out looking for a new job right now anyway.
One missed paycheck for a lot of people, and their personal house of cards collapses.
how is cnn getting all this info

From leaks. They reported this yesterday. But they were wrong. I hope they are wrong again today.
Judges would stop it before it even started.
Are they? You got a link for that? Verifiable? Or is this in the CNN link?
Well, at least now people may come to understand that just electing a president is nowhere near enough to begin treating what ails this sick nation.
Why no executive order to build the wall as a matter of national defense?

Because a Federal Judge will slap down this order before the ink is dry.
A military emergency is not subject to the whim of a left wing pacifist judge
