Another brutal day for journalism.
Gannett began slashing jobs all across the country Wednesday in a cost-cutting move that was anticipated even before the recent news that a hedge-fund company was planning to buy the chain.

I have mixed feelings about this. I can’t stand to read any Gannett newspaper anymore because they are so slanted, but I don’t think they were always this bad. I actually liked USA Today once upon a time - they were colorful, had little in-depth reporting but covered a broader range of topics than any local paper - which were, ironically, also Gannett publications.

They should have moved their operation into the “NEWS” business. Almost no one does that stuff anymore, and if Gannett had given it a try they might have really found a niche.
